mhugcat Posted August 13, 2007 #1 Share Posted August 13, 2007 Hi I read a thread on another board that Princess Cays had a lot of 'biting' ants. Mainly near the area where the bungalows are. Princess said this only happened in the rainy season. Anyone had a bad experience there.
sky's the limit Posted August 13, 2007 #2 Share Posted August 13, 2007 Princess Cays has always had problems with sandflys/fleas http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sand_fly that did seem to be worse at certain times of the year, I don't recall having problems with Ants but maybe with the increased development on the island they have disturbed areas with Ants. When I worked for Princess we always tooks cans of Insect repellent to the beach for the crew working the Bars and BBQ. I would advise protecting your feet/ankles from the little blighters as they can nip pretty bad.
freetocruise Posted August 13, 2007 #3 Share Posted August 13, 2007 What months are considered "rainy season"? Does the whole cay have problems with these sand fleas/ants or is it just the cabana area? Thanks.
wubbat Posted August 13, 2007 #4 Share Posted August 13, 2007 Rainy season is from 1 June through 30 October..........Basically it's the same as hurricane season.

freetocruise Posted August 13, 2007 #6 Share Posted August 13, 2007 We'll be there on Dec. 17th. We've booked a bungalow and are really looking forward to the day and no fleas (keeping fingers crossed).
Quacker Posted August 13, 2007 #7 Share Posted August 13, 2007 We were there July 16th and had no problem. Had spray with us but did not use. Don:cool:
mhugcat Posted August 13, 2007 Author #8 Share Posted August 13, 2007 I hope no fleas etc., I feel itchy just reading this. The thread I read originally with '50+ bites' was in June and apparantly 'worse around the bungalows' but it could have been just a storm etc., I am not going to worry. But can any one recommend a good repellent ' just in case'
stoneharborlady Posted August 13, 2007 #9 Share Posted August 13, 2007 No problem when we were there in early July, but we barely left the water, it was too gorgeous to get out!! Karen
SUN TURNIP Posted August 13, 2007 #10 Share Posted August 13, 2007 I have been there twice and never noticed any ants. I will look harder the next time I am there.:p
cruzkitty Posted August 13, 2007 #11 Share Posted August 13, 2007 I have been to Princess Cays three times, and never noticed the ants! One year, a gentleman did get stung by a jellyfish, but I haven't seen them there, either.
mhugcat Posted August 13, 2007 Author #12 Share Posted August 13, 2007 This is good news. I am going to stop worrying about ants and fleas etc and look forward to the day. Not too long to go now:)
