Hi!

Sorry we went on the NCL Dawn.. There were girls/women in gowns.. I saw men in suits.. It was all so very nice!

You should just call Carnival and ask them.. Do you want formal? Go for it whether they do or they dont.. its your cruise.

Yes we had a balcony.. it was very small but we loved it ... We slept with the door open and the ac off... it was amazing

I really can say if i would like freestyle.. i didnt think i would but i really cant make that judgement call on a one night cruise..but having the options for this one night wasnt bad either.. It was really worth going on!

:)

I definitely do want to try NCL one day. I want to try all the lines. :D

It was so ridiculously reasonable.. you should try it.. Its a great way to see if you like a line/ship.. I think we paid $300 for the two of us..

Did you see my photos of the bridge.. it never ceases to "awe" me!

Was the $300 including the tax and the insurance?

Yeah I did see the photos of the bridge. I love that bridge.....I used to drive under that bridge every day on the Belt Pkway. when I worked at my last job.

I might consider it for next year. This year we are done with our vacations. :(

Do you have any pictures you can show me besides the bridge?

Your pictures are great. The ship looks lovely. From what I can tell some of it is decorated in an Asian theme and other parts in Art Deco.

Did you go on Sat? You had perfect weather. It was beautiful this weekend.

Yes you hit the nail on the head! The ship was beautiful.. one of the nicer ships i have seen.. It was immaculate..The art deco theater was incredible, very Erte' like..

There was also a movie theater besides the show theater.. we peaked..it was like a mini multiplex type auditorium..

The weather was incredible.. i am not good with the camera.. so it definitely helped LOL

The only thing bad about those CTN's are that they are way too short. Although it is a good way to sample a ship. Does NCL have 2 nighters?

God knows we love Carinval.. but our 2 day CTN this last June soured me a bit. As earlier posters have stated... I felt the crew wasn't really up for it. Alot of supplies were out and stuff not available. On the first day sat at the lobby bar for nearly 10 minutes before we were served. Three crew standing on the opposite chatting..one finally came over. Isolated incident I'm sure...but just best seems to summarize the two days. Still love cruising.. still love Carnival just no more CTN's.

Ours was on the Legend last Oct and I had no complaints....might just be an isolated incident.

I wish we had those over here on the West Coast! If they had them once in a while out of San Francisco, it would be great.

I keep looking to see what Splendor is going to do when she arrives in San Francisco in early 2009... I would consider taking a little repo from SF to LA if they schedule that!!

Now - DH & I DID fly all the way to Miami for a CTN.... but it was a very special occasion. Had it not been a Pre-Inaugural, we wouldn't have if we had to fly or even drive more than a couple of hours.

I say go for it - I like to try everything once. You might like it!

Did you have a balcony cabin Toni?

The Dawn does look very nice, but I'm not so sure I would like that Freestyle dining every night.

I didn't care for the Freestyle dining at all. I have to wait in line at resturants at home, I don't want to waste my time doing it on a cruise. If you read another thread on here about the same seat at dinner. You will see lots of folks that can't take Freestyle:D

I think it was but have to agree with Shortstop - that sailing from Norfolk was just somehow "off." Would consider another one if it were three days or very cheap but if that one was the same as the Victory in June, I'll stick to the longer cruises.

I think I will be able to tolerate a little waiting for drinks if necessary. Even with delayed service, I will still be able to get a drink faster than if I am with my kids!!

For anyone who may have sailed out of New York on the CTN in Oct., how far south did the ship go? I am trying to figure out how warm it will be during the sea day and consequently, what type of clothing I will need.

I did the CTN last year aboard the Legend. I would say that the ship goes maybe a 100 to 200 miles south. We had warm weather in the low 70's but Oct could go either way. It could be really cool or really warm. A day or so before listen to the weather forecast.

join our roll call . it says something like oct. 18 short and sweet. there is a bunch of going on this little short cruise to nowhere with you. they are talking about the same things, what type of clothing to bring. apparently, it is supposed to be beautiful that weekend, but it is to far away to tell. so, join in on the conversations.

I can't speak for NY but I don't think they're out to burn a lot of gas on the CTN - just get you out to international waters so they can open the casino and shops. We seemed to stay at about a speed of 7-10 knots and made it to about even with Cape Hatteras when we turned around and headed back to Norfolk so we didn't really go very far at all. I was able to find the ships coordinates at the time we turned around to head back and look up where we'd been.

Out of NY we did about 22 knots. It said it on the TV in the cabin.
