kellygirl719 Posted August 21, 2007 #51 Share Posted August 21, 2007 Of all the cruises I've been on, I've never gone to the Muster Drill sober... makes it more fun!! :-)
wormfarmer Posted August 21, 2007 #52 Share Posted August 21, 2007 I have been on one cruise and I skipped it. Just didn't go. I sat in the room and started getting my drink on. Plus I swam one summer in camp and am pretty capable of reading the sign on the door so I got it all covered. No need to go. It is for people who are scared of the water that should really attend. The muster drill is required for everyone not just those who are scared of water and it is for your protection and safety. Trust me I know my husband happens to be IN the Coast Guard ............. What is the muster drill"? Do I have to attend the drill? The muster drill is conducted either when your ship departs or shortly thereafter. It is a safety drill that you are required to attend per U.S. Coast Guard and international safety regulations. You will be asked to take your life vests from your room and meet at a designated spot on the ship when the ship sounds its alarms. The ship's officers will also announce the drill on the ship's PA system. Once at your meeting spot, the ship's officers will demonstrate procedures in case of an emergency. The drill rarely lasts more than about twenty minutes, and it is conducted for your own safety. Please take it seriously.

He's got a grand total of <20 posts under his belt and he's already condoned not only skipping the muster drill, but using your glassware for an ashtray, taking pictures on the F-deck, and more. wormfarmer Posted August 21, 2007 #55 Share Posted August 21, 2007 Parrothead, I was expressing my opinion. I did nothing wrong here. If you want to ignore me, that is fine, but I didn't ask for your shallow opinion to start with, so please keep it to yourself in the future. wormfarmer Posted August 21, 2007 #57 Share Posted August 21, 2007 I do apologize I misread your title, Parrotguy. I really am not a bad guy, so just back off and read up and learn a little before you spout off about something you don't know. Looks like you are a cruise newbie yourself and could learn something here. Thanks!

Second of all, it wasn't an opinion, it was the fact of the matter which anyone can verify simply by looking at your other posts.

Your informative posts have already taught me how to get away with missing the muster drill, taking photos surrepititiously on the F-deck and using the glasses in my room for ashtrays. I'd just as soon NOT learn anything from you, if it's all the same. Bye now.
BostonAtty Posted August 21, 2007 #61 Share Posted August 21, 2007 I've been to 48 muster drills so don't tell me to relax while I'm sweating in the sun, jammed into a crowd of pumpkins. Missing 15 or 30 minutes of my relaxing, first day winding down and having a toddy time, while some bozo the clown hides in his john, comforting himself, and thinking he is above the rules.AND, there is a good reason for the drills in the first place. So go to the drill, PERIOD. Dan No need to get personal!
Cruise-aholic Posted August 21, 2007 #62 Share Posted August 21, 2007 because one of my favorite things to do is to go down to the Tampa port on Sunday afternoons, sit outside at Bennigans, have a cold beer and watch the ship get ready for debarkation. And it never fails to see quite a few people actually hiding out on their balconies or the braver ones walking around up top leaning over the railings hooting and hollering at the people below. Sometimes they get snagged to go to the Muster sometimes they don't but it's fun to watch and speculate who will get nabbed next. My question is why miss the drill as long as you don't sit there blowing that #$%&* whistle it can actually be kinda entertaining as alot of folks have already started their party. halos Posted August 21, 2007 #63 Share Posted August 21, 2007 No need to get personal! I understand his being personal. Every time a selfish Bozo thinks they're too good to go through the drill, and they're hiding out in their freaking bathroom, we have to stand there longer and wait for them to be discovered. BostonAtty Posted August 21, 2007 #64 Share Posted August 21, 2007 I understand his being personal. Every time a selfish Bozo thinks they're too good to go through the drill, we have to stand there longer with those life vests on while we could be having fun. I agree that it is inconsiderate, but taking it to a personal level just feeds the trolls.
wormfarmer Posted August 21, 2007 #65 Share Posted August 21, 2007 The glasses really do work well for ashtrays if you put a little water in the bottom! HAHAHAHA Have a great day ParrotRob and no hard feelings! I am actually booked on your next cruise. I am on the Fascination U167 for the Christmas cruise as well!!! We will have to hook up for a drink!

cruisin'4fun Posted August 21, 2007 #69 Share Posted August 21, 2007 Last year on the Conquest they had the stewards put cards into the slot on your door during muster. If you hid in your room you were locked in and had to call for someone to come let you out. That way they knew you had skipped the drill! They told us about this at the muster drill - in case there was a card still in our door when we got back, we were to notify our steward. Ours was taking the card out of our door as we came back from the drill. (They also had a list and marked us off as we left our room.) Wonder if they do that on all ships or if this was a trial to see how it worked? I haven't seen it on any other cruise but going on the Conquest again next month and will see. Barkingowl Posted August 21, 2007 #73 Share Posted August 21, 2007 My DW absolutely hates muster drill. I think its fun. I like getting to my muster station early & waiting with my compatriots. I get to know the crew that watch over my life boat & see them interact with their superiors. Sure lining up is a pain, but I crack jokes with my line mates & we all talk about the people that show up at the last minute that they find under the beds. If you don't want to get caught in the rush back to cabins on the staircases, have a cocktail or play some slots in the casino.
