? re: points on RCCL Visa

Recommended Posts

The points are not applied to the account until the closing of the billing cycle. It is not applied immediately after purchase. This is the way every rewards credit card I have ever had does it.

There is no way you would have time to apply for the card, receive it, use it for the bonus points, get to the end of the billing cycle and redeem the points in 23 days. It is not possible. Sorry. That's just the way it is. (Even in this "info technology age.")

Well then that's FALSE ADVERTISING on BOA's part, I READ the terms backwards and frontwards, 'when a qualifiying purchase is made you receive 15,000 pts. to your account'..it doesn't say UNTIL close of the billing cycle...

At any rate, time will tell how I fare, I'll probably strike out but que sera sera...

Apparently you didn't read it all that closely. The following is quoted directly off the application:
Earn 15,000 Bonus Points after your first qualifying transaction§§
See the little squigglies after this statement? That indicates there is further explanation elsewhere on the form (usually near the bottom) and to see the further explanation you need to find the matching set of squigglies and read what it says there:
§§To receive Bonus Royal Points (in addition to basic points, if any), make any purchase or cash advance transaction with your new Royal Caribbean credit card account. Transaction must occur no later than the Closing Date of the second complete billing cycle ending after the account is opened. Bonus Points from this one-time offer will be credited to your account 6-8 weeks after you qualify. Bonus Points count towards yearly earnings limit. See Program highlights above for more information.

Give it up. It doesn't matter if you have the card tomorrow, you won't get the OBC. Keep arguing all you want. All that have answered have told you the way it is. You keep insisting on trying to make it the way you want it to be.

Oh, you sticklers for the fine print!;) Nice catch.

Well I have read
Good point. Everything one reads on the internet is true.

And I didn't even have to read it backwards and forwards. Took me all of a minute and a half to find the specific clause I quoted once I pulled up the application form.

Finding a good rewards card that suits your needs is like getting "free money" (providing you pay it off each month!) but it does require a wee bit of planning. Free money is rarely instant. ;)

I will admit that the RCCL Visa is a bit archaic in the rewards redemption process but in addition to planning, free money often requires some work to go along with it.

Hey, it is what it is. If you want the rewards, you follow the guidelines layed out in the agreement when you apply for the card.

BTW, the latest offer of 15,000 bonus points is a great offer! I think I got a measly 2,000 bonus points when I applied a few years ago. :p I was happy to get 'em and I've managed to work the card to my advantage in the interim. But it is also not the only rewards card I use.

Just for those of you who have a RCCL card already i was reading how some people got another card with the 15,000 bonus so i filled out the form and dont you know they sent me a new card and just decreased my limit on the other card! So now i have $150 in free money and still have the points from my other card that i charge everything on. Like has been said its like free money! And we end up with a very small seapass bill. (last cruise $3.36)

I did receive my first card almost by return mail in my name to see if a woman could get one & esp. being retired & not hi income. Got the Platinum.:D Now I decided to get one for my husband, just for the $150 OBC, so we'll see how long that takes. Could be our high credit rating made a difference or does your C&A level influence the issue?

I skimmed over the rules again & this time I picked up that the casino withdrawals are not part of the dbl points credit. They'll accept alcohol credits but not gambling. Another quirky RCCL idea? Then tonight I read on CC that they're cracking down on casino withdrawals & watch to see that you're gambling with that money. Apparently another case of a few ruining it for the masses! [Or has it always been that way?]

Whatever, I'm excited to get that good start for more OBCs. Has anyone done the math of Visa points vs. Discover $$ rebates? Hope someone can save me the trouble! Thx to the few who gave the detailed redemption process!

I have this card (2 of them...the second one was applied for in my name, with my husband as the secondary user...just to get the $150 OBC)...however, we haven't taken our first RC cruise yet (booked for January 2008)...so, we don't have a C&A number...will this be a problem when it comes time to redeem my points for OBC?

I have a quick question, my mother has the RCCL Visa card and she wanted to redeem her points and give her granddaughters the onboard credit. Is she able to do that, if she is not going on the cruise? That would be so cool if she could do what she wants with her points.

Yes. She can do this. When she receives the certificate all she needs to do is fill out your (or her grandaughters') reservation info on the reverse side. She does not have to be on the cruise.

Are you 100% positive on this? You can fill out someone else's name on the back of the certificates and let someone else redeem them for an onboard credit? Has anyone done this?
I haven't done it myself so I guess I'm not 100% positive. But I have read here on the boards of others doing it. So, unless there's been a change in policy, I would assume it is still possible.

You could always call C&A and ask.

as I was just ready to post that you either email or call them for the real truth. Email is #1 since you copy it and keep it as backup for when the redemption doesn't go as planned.

We were on a Celebrity cruise with $600 in OBC for stokholder, Visa & onboard booking. 3rd day of cruise our account shows on TV with $100 credit. I went to the purser with emails from all on what I was getting. He phones Miami that I have $100 not the $600 I have emails on. SO he faxes them to Miami. They state "the ship is already sailing so nothing will be done on it" So I yell where do I get the $500 owed. He tells me they will post the points back to my card. I tell them "the bank can give me the $500 owed for tips & excursions." So the bank did.

So glad I have proof!

I have an email in to C & A to see what they have to say.

I applied for the card, then two days later got the promotion of the 15k point offer. A few days later my card in the mail arrived, but they would not apply the 15k, just the 2500.

I cancelled the card, then reapplied. Its been over 10 days and I have not heard anything about it. Do you think I was denied? how come they never said anything?

I thought about my wife trying to apply to see if that works. I would like this card before the 15k point offer ends!

Bluecookies: didn't it say you were accepted when you completed the online ap? Yes, I and several others that I've seen on this thread got 2 cards. My DH said we don't need another card but I did it anyway for the OBCs & told him he can cut it up once it's used one time!:D Don't think Visa or BOA will go broke over these deals!

Nice idea to use as gifts to Grands!

Macop: That's scary to lose $500 OBCs. Glad you won that one. That's why I keep everything from any changes or credits given, even the old SetSail copy when I changed the CC payment card for upcoming cruises. Too bad I lost the $500 downpayment for the next 3 already booked!

winncove, no it didn't say. I'm fairly young and I'm just starting to build credit. They said they would need more time to decide. When I got approved before within a few days I knew and a few days later got the cards. Most recently however, I have heard nothing as if I didn't apply!

Since you have stated you're young and just beginning to establish your credit, I will point out that it's not really good for your credit to apply multiple times for cards (even if it's basically the same card or you have well-established credit).

I'm not sure of the exact reasoning but my guess is because you're establishing more credit than your income will allow you to pay off. Doesn't matter whether you use the card or not, you still have a limit that you can charge up to so that's the rub.

It may be why it is taking longer to get approval (if you even do) for the second card.

And it is my understanding that getting and cancelling a card is not helpful to your credit either. So even though you cancelled, you still initially got approved and that shows on your credit history.

Sorry. I know this is not what you want to hear. But since you bumped up the thread I thought I'd share what I thought about posting last night.

I hope you get approval for the second card. But if I were you, I wouldn't be applying for any other cards for awhile. At least until you've charged on this one for awhile and established a good payment history on it.

Good luck and let us know what happens.

1% is the rate for OBC or deduction of money from cruise bill. 1% on discover cashback is only after you have charge over $3000. As they explained it to me with my 5% gas card, all other purchases are .25% up to $1000, then it is .50% to $3000 which it is then 1%. That stinks!

I also have the Fidelity AMEX Platinum, which our broker pays the annual fee for us, so we get free companion air for domestic & international, free airport lounges for the airline you are traveling with, but RCCL is not one of their cruise companies that give you $300 OBC for booking with them for a 7 nt cruise, hope we get $600 for 2 weeks of we cruise any other company that they deal with.

The concert back on 9/2 was AWESOME, tailgating was even more fantastic, everything I had heard it would be and then some...like Jimmy says: PACE yourselves with the tailgating...

We ended up going this past Saturday as well, nosebleed seats, but who cares it was Jimmmy live, bit hotter on Saturday vs. Labor Day as you may have noticed, anyhoo, did you go? What'd you think of the concert?

Minor quibbling woulda been wish he had played 'why don't we get drunk ...' vs. a couple of 'no name' songs he played mid-concert...

The concert was awesome and so was the luxury suite. I'll probably never get the chance to sit there again since the tickets were given to us! :) I said to my husband: "So this is how the other half lives!" :D

It was very warm and tailgating was a blast. I had hoped for "Why Don't We Get Drunk", too but was quite happy with the concert!

That was the only song I wished he had played that he didn't, nor did he play it when we went last Saturday the 8th...btw, I just picked up the LIVE AT TEXAS STADIUM cd, highly recommended...
