Triumph-Eastern Caribbean Itinerary-Questions?

Hey all!

Just got back from the Triumph last Saturday and wondered if anyone had any questions?

I'll do a review sometime in the next couple of days, I promise, but wanted to check whether or not anyone had any questions I could answer. I know I always appreciated these threads when I was getting ready to go!

The cruise was wonderful--can't complain about a thing!

Hi Keggy!

I suppose there was a sewer-y odor occasionally, but nothing overwhelming, and certainly not constant. It didn't really bother me or my husband--in fact, I think I only noticed it because people always talk about it on the boards! The couple of times I mentioned it to Andrew (my husband), he'd kind of sniff the air and go, "Oh yeah...I guess I smell it." So...take that for what it's worth!

In Grand Turk, we did the Madison Point Clear Kayak excursion through Carnival. We really enjoyed it! We took a bus ride out to the kayaking area, kayaked to a big lagoon, paddled around, they kayaked back. We then took another bus ride to an area for snorkeling, did a bit of snorkeling, and then took a final bus ride back to the pier. We REALLY liked Grand Turk. It has a very interesting history, and the water is a gorgeous clear turquoise color. There's not a lot of stuff to do right at the pier--there is a beach, of couse, which we didn't visit, and also the famous Margaritaville (where we bought water and sat by the pool until our excursion began), as well as some of the regular tourist-y duty-free shops.

Hope that helps! :)

I hope you'll have as great a time as we did! We absolutely loved it, but then we're not the type of people to look for things to be bad or wrong or whatever.

The port was fine--we didn't see much besides the Carnival entryway. We took a taxi in from our Miami hotel.

We got there around 11:30 or so and were on the ship by 12:30, I think. Somewhere around there. Of course, we couldn't get in our rooms until 2:30, but we were towards the front of people boarding the ship, so that was nice. We enjoyed lunch in the Lido buffet and then walked around a bit. It was great!

Hi:

We are leaving on Saturday and I was wondering about the ac in the dining rooms and casino. Is it freezing?

Also how many electrical outlets are in the balcony rooms?

TIA!

I was also on this particular cruise, and since these questions haven't been answered yet, I'll take a stab.

I was in the 8pm seating in the Paris dining room. To me, it was really cold. I didn't bring a jacket or sweater with me though, so that's my own fault. A couple of our table mates brought wraps or sweaters each night, and they seemed comfortable.

I didn't spend any time in the casino though other than to walk through to get somewhere else, so I'm not sure what it would be like to spend any significant time in there.

The electrical outlets in the room were fine. I had an OV room. There were, I believe, 2 outlets. I'd read on here that you should bring a power strip, so I did...never used it though. It just depends on how many things you'll need to plug in. I took a hair dryer and straightener. My friend took a straightener as well. Usually, I don't plug in my straightener until after I dry, so there wasn't a problem there.

The only plug in the bathroom was on the dryer and said "shavers only."

One other thing to mention on the outlets...my friend mentioned that the first time she plugged something in, she heard crackling, but never heard it after that. I never heard it period.

I hope you have a great time on your trip!

Thank you so much for the information. I had planned to bring a couple of wraps to go over my dresses so I am okay there. I will plan to bring my powerstrip for my hair dryer and straightener just in case.

Thanks again.

I just got off the same cruise and will be posting a review as well. I did notice a bit of an odor a couple of times but it wasn't enough to bother me. I noticed it near the Rome Lounge. I was comfortable temperature wise in the dining room (8:30 London, second level) but the Rome Lounge (theater) was cold. I would suggest taking a wrap or sweater for the Rome. Upstairs didn't seem cold (we all know heat rises) but downstairs it was bbrrrrr.

Next to Hawaii, Grand Turk had the most beautiul reefs we'd ever seen! If you like to dive or snorkel, make sure to do it at GT. The reefs were ALIVE, not dead or dying like so many places. The plantlife was lush and varied and there were many kinds of gorgeous fish. I swam after a barracuda to take his picture and there were grouper and rays as well. We didn't see the nurse sharks:(. Oh yes, if you decide to not do a snorkel excursion and just rent the equipment on HMC, make sure you go over to the rocks and not just the beachy part. There's nothing on the beachy part but nice snorkeling by the rocks.

I won't hijack Erin's thread, just wanted to answer a couple of questions.

Welcome back - sounds like you enjoyed the Triumph - my questions:

1) Can you confirm formal nights were Monday (at sea) and Thursday (Grand Turk)?

2) Did you see any of the shows/magicians/comedians - anything not to be missed?

3) Did you visit the Piano bar? Who's playing? Any comments?

4) Was Rinaldo on board? still doing the 'kissy kissy thing'?:D

5) When was afternoon tea time? Did you go?

Can't wait to read your review!

Thanks,

Froufie

Hello all!

Sorry I didn't answer all of you right away--I had stepped away for awhile. Thanks to those of you who jumped in! (You're certainly not a hijacker, HookedOnCruisin'!)

Definitely not freezing--but I did take a sweater with me to dinner and to the Rome Lounge. It did get pretty chilly in the theatre (Rome Lounge)--Andrew always forgot to bring his jacket and regretted it. Dinner and the casino were fine!

Two outlets, yes, in the room. I took an extension cord, but we never used it!

The formal nights are, indeed, Monday and Thursday.

We went to a few shows over the course of the week. The Welcome Aboard show was GREAT--particularly Paul, the cruise director. We also saw the revue-style show (the first one of the week), which was good, but kind of cheesy (as you might expect). We also saw the magic show, which I thought was going to be lame, but ended up being great! It was "Kevin & Caruso", for the record, and they were excellent. Our friends went to see the comedian later in the week (Eddie Capone) and really liked his family-friendly show, but didn't love the adults-only show. We also saw the Carnival Legends show on the last night, and it was wonderful! We laughed and laughed and the singers were mostly really good!

We only made it to the piano bar for about half an hour on the very last night. Garth was playing, and he was excellent--talented and very friendly. We liked him a lot and were sorry we hadn't made it there earlier in the week! My husband also LOVED the "party music" cover band "Pure"--we only saw them on the last night, too, but they were really great! They played in the Venezia Lounge.

I don't remember Rinaldo, sorry!

I don't recall when Tea Time was, and no, we never went--but we did walk through the Oxford Lounge (where it was held) right as it was winding down one day and it looked very nice!

Phew! Keep 'em comin', everyone! I'll post the review sometime tomorrow, I hope! :)

Can you tell me what excursion you did in Grand Turk (private or thru Carnival) we are a group looking to do our snorkeling in Grand Turk - any info you can share, I would really appreciate. Thanks

I'm not HookedOnCruisin', obviously, but we did an excursion in Grand Turk through Carnival that included snorkeling. We took a bus to do some kayaking in a lagoon and then took a bus to do some snorkeling--we did about 45 minutes or so of each, with an additional 45 minutes or so on the bus with a very fun and knowledgeable tour guide. As I said, it was through Carnival, and it was the Madison Point Clear Kayaking excursion.

We really enjoyed it!

Thanks for getting back to me. Its very easy to get "hookedOnCruisin". Do you remember the name of the tour, it sounds like something we may look into.
