mprcruiser Posted September 9, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 9, 2007 Which expedition will be the best for snorkling in Kona on our December 1 cruise? Also are surfing lessons available in Waikiki and Kuai? Our daughter and SIL are looking at doing both and would like some advice. Thanks in advance. melika091900 Posted September 9, 2007 #2 Share Posted September 9, 2007 in kona we snorkeled at kahuluu beach park . http://www.hawaiiweb.com/Hawaii/html/beaches/kahaluu_beach_park.html once you get off a tender in kona, theres a shuttle you take there, its 5$ per person each way.. and the shuttle runs every 15-30 min back and forth to the pier, its about 4 miles from the pier, i wouldnt walk it , the road is narrow and theres a lot of cars. just remember also the beach has a lot of reef and rock, make sure you have swim shoes or flippers.. flip flops didnt work well since the rock was slippery.. theres amazing fish there,, it was beautiful, and also turtles were everywhere.. have fun melissa

Thanks in advance.Jimanne1 There are many options for snorkeling in Kona. Most have been discussed quite extensively here. If you do a search on the boards (limit it to the Hawaii board, the last six months, and input the search terms "Kona snorkel") you should find enough to keep you busy for HOURS! :) We loved our Fair Wind snorkel, which we decided on after going through the above process and considering the needs of our party. For surf lessons (though I'm not and never will be a surfer) I'd suggest looking at Oahu (not necessarily Waikiki) and Maui (more than Kauai for a winter cruise). Hope that helps you focus your search a bit. :)
