sandydownunder Posted August 26, 2004 #1 Share Posted August 26, 2004 We will be doing back to back cruises on Carnival Liberty next year. The change over port is Civitavecchia. We finished a cruise here last year. Just got off the ship, took a taxi to the station and the train into Rome, so we didn't even get a look at the town. We don't want to go to Rome. Anything of interest in or around Civitavecchia?
RxTexan Posted August 26, 2004 #2 Share Posted August 26, 2004 There is a neat fortress located at the port that was supposedly designed by Michelangelo. Other than that, I don't know of anything at the port city itself. One thing you might want to consider is going to Tarqinia, which is not too far away. They have a wonderful walled city, a fabulous Etruscan museum, and some fantastic painted tombs you can visit. It would be easy to spend a day there. We had our own car and driver and it worked out well.
Guest canam Posted August 26, 2004 #3 Share Posted August 26, 2004 We want to do the same type of trip from Civitavecchia that you did but are having trouble finding tour companies. Did you find your driver when you arrived there or on the iternet? We would appreciate any advice and information you can give us. Unfortunately, we will be there on a Monday, the day the museums are closed. Thanks in advance.:)
RxTexan Posted August 27, 2004 #4 Share Posted August 27, 2004 We booked our driver in advance, using Max Leotta at maxleotta@tiscali.it I think just about any of the good limo services in Rome could arrange something. Another thing we did on the way back to Rome was visit ancient Ostia, Rome's port, which is really worth seeing.
