Is there enough time - san pedro?

If am in port from 7am - 5 pm is there enough time to take a water taxi from Belize City to San Pedro? Are the water taxis reliable? How long would I get in San Pedro?

We went to caye caulker with Ecological Tours, they also offer tours to San Pedro you might want to contact them for more details.

From what I've read on these boards, I think the only safe way to get to Ambergris Caye & back is to fly there.
