zertywert Posted October 9, 2007 #1 Share Posted October 9, 2007 Hi. I hope that some one can help me out. I know that drees is more conservative in Merida, and I was wondering if a sundress with spaghetti straps would be frowned upon. I do not want to offend anyone. Thanks. travel girl23 Posted October 9, 2007 #2 Share Posted October 9, 2007 Sounds fine to me. I wore shorts when we were there. You will look fine. Have a great cruise. Travelgirl

gotigers01 Posted October 10, 2007 #4 Share Posted October 10, 2007 Gosh, I didn't even consider how I was dressed! I wore shorts and a tank top and didn't notice any stares or disapproving glances!
tdms1324 Posted October 12, 2007 #5 Share Posted October 12, 2007 A sundress with spaghetti straps is very acceptable. The dress in Merida is more conservative in some ways, but more liberal than others. I think you will find more skimpy tight fitting shirts and heels (I don't know how they where some of the shoes they do on some of the cobbled sidewalks!) then you would think. The local people don't seem to wear shorts at all, but I don't think they frown on shorts at all. I think they just recognize you as a tourist :)
