Leis

Hi...

Last year I paid $15 for a simple dendrobium lei in the airport.

I agree with the poster who suggested a quick stop in China Town. It's right off of the highway into Waikiki and the selection/quality is much higher than at the airport. I always pick up a bunch of beautiful tropical flowers for my hotel room; they can then be carried aboard ship to grace your cabin.

Aloha...

If you walk outside of the airport lobby, there is a row of lei stands not far from the airport- the flowers and leis are incredibly fresh and some will string them for you while you wait, should you desire. Prices are higher, but the selection is really incredible.

All that being said, we bought some of our nicest leis in grocery stores.

Our hotel, Resort Quest Waikiki Beach Resort had a table at the pool with great leis for $5.00 each. Also we bought leis at the grocery store but they did not last as long.

At the port in Hilo, you can pick out a gorgeous flower arrangement when you get off the ship in the morning, pay for it, ours was $10. and it will be in your room when you get back on the ship. Ours lasted the whole week and I wish I could have figured out a way to bring it home, Orchids and antheriums.

They also sold beautiful leis there. I bought one when we were getting back on the ship and it lasted for 4 nights. Beautiful blue floweres that I did not see anywhere else. enjoy!

If you plan to go to the Marketplace in Waikiki there was a lady there several years ago that made fresh leis. In January we were there early in the morning and she could not be found. Someone told us she would be there later in the day. As another poster mentioned, there are several flower/grocery stores in Chinatown with a great variety and very reasonable. Another source is Wal Mart but that will be out of your way.

If you rent a limo from ABC you not only get a ride to your hotel or the pier, they give you a lei, fruit juice or soda and a nice little gift. We enjoyed this service, especially after such a long flight and would definitely use them again.( I saved their phone number in my cell phone, can always dream of returning soon! :) )
