Costa Fortuna Cabins?

I am in the process of booking a family cruise on the Fortuna. It will be me, DW and two DDs(6 and 3). Right now my cabin choices are either an Oceanview on the Cannes deck or a balcony on the Vigo. For those of you who had sailed Costa before which one would you recommend? We need a cabin that is quiet in the evening from noises coming from the outside. Price is not an issue.

I thank everyone in advance.

Hi! I haven't been on the Fortuna, actually we will be sailing the week of March 23, 2008. But I looked at the layout of the ship comparing where your rooms were and one room is on a deck (Cannes) which is higher up and will have a lot of traffic because its near the beauty salon, the other (Vigo) is regular cabin deck which should have normal traffic and noise compare to the other. Just a little info! Enjoy yourself, do you know when you're sailing? God BLess!

If I would have a choice I would definately go with the balcony cabin on the Vigo Deck (Deck 8). Although you may want to consider a couple of important facts when booking your cabin. Some cabins on Deck 8 are situated directly underneath the public areas, especially towards from mid-ship towards the aft (you got the pools and the buffet restaurants right above you). So although the cabin and hallway may be quiet, cabins in those locations may be noisy do to the fact that people moving lounge chairs or restaurant chairs right above you. Try to avoid cabins # 8288 and HIGHER, as those are located under these public areas. Deck 8 towards the stern is more likely a safe location. Do you have a specific cabin number?

If you have alternatives for rooms, see if you can get on Deck 6 or 7. Those decks do NOT have any public areas above or below and are therefore very quiet. If you are prone to motion sickness, you may want to try to stay mid-ship, as you can feel more motion towards the stern and the aft of the ship.

Let us know if you have specific cabin #'s...

In my personal opinion: I would select either stateroom 8249 or 8270, as those cabins are fairly centrally located mid-ship and not far from the main elevators, which will enable you to easy access to other decks, such as main lobby, bars, casino, buffet restaurant, pools, etc. These cabins have no public areas above or below, so noise should be minimal, with the exception of normal and customary "walk-by-traffic".

8211 and 8212 would be my second choice, as those are located pretty far forward. They will be nice and quite as they is hardly any walk-by-traffic. But being further forward, you will feel the motion of the ship more than in a mid-ship location.

I would not choose cabins 8406, 8414 or 8419 as those are located directly underneath the pool, pool bar and poolside buffet, especially if the noise factor is of importance to you, as you mentioned. You may encounter quite a bit of noise from chairs and loungers being moved around, as that will take place right "on your head".

Just my 2 cents and my personal opinon... I hope there will be other cruisers giving their input as well...

Hope that helps...

  • 4 weeks later...

Just got off the Nov. 2nd transatlantic Fortuna cruise. The ship is the same as the Carnival Glory and others in the same class. The ship is tough to navigate as you cannot go everywhere on every deck. The two restaurants cut up the ship as each is on two decks. Note that deck seven does go through, and is a great choice. It is quiet and the one we were on.

We're on deck 6, in cabin 6435 - and it looks like we're right above the casino... can that be right??? :(

fortuna 6435 is right above the Piano Bar. For late night noise, you should be ok since i do not think the piano bar goes late (late meaning 12, 1 or 2 am)

To the OP,

Ask the cruiseline directly what is above, below and beside each cabin. They can tell you. We were under the photostudio last year, although it was public space it was very quiet. Make sure you are not it a connecting cabin, like hotel rooms you can often hear what is going on next door. Also, make sure you are not beside or too close to the service closets for the room stewards. This can be noisy.

Personally, if money is not the object, I'd go for the balcony.

Well, sometimes it might be interesting what's going on next door..

(Just kidding!!!)

If you want to check whats below or above you, you can always check sites such as cruisedeckplans.com... just locate your cabin on the deck you're booked in and skip up and down on the decks... At least you'll know which common area is above/below you, as most of those plans are not as detailed to show you every nook and cranny and service area. But at least it's something...

Here's the link (for the Fortuna)

http://www.cruisedeckplans.com/DP/Costa/fortuna.php

But there are many other ships listed as well.

Hope that helps.

Apart from reading reviews on here, look at cruisedeckplans.com for layout of decks and cabin types. I use them a lot.
