Driving Kahekeli Hwy Maui -shorter/scary??

We plan to visit the Olivine Pools mentioned in Maui Revealed again. They are just east of the Nakalele Blowhole. We did it 2 years ago & loved it, but the drive all the way back around through Lahaina to the ship was very long. Has anyone done the shorter(?) drive back to Kahului through Kahakuloa & Wailuku?? If so, is it as scary as the book indicates :eek: and exactly how much time does it save you? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks so much for the link Hawaiilvr!! That was exactly the info I was looking for! Think we'll end up takiing the long way home, as I am not into terrifying drives, even for only 2 miles.
