Good Place for Lobster/Seafood Sydney and Halifax

Can anyone recommend a good place to get lobster/seafood for lunch in Sydney and Halifax? Not sure I want to take the excursion to Peggy's Cove. But would like some good seafood. Don't get much fresh seafood in the Midwest. We're on the 10/1 Constellation Canada/New England cruise. Also, would be interested in any suggestions in Newport, RI. Thanks

Linda...I've been checking on this too. I understand there are acouple of places along the wharf in Halifax which serve good lobster. Haven't found much about Sydney...but I'm sure there must be somewhere.

By the way...I noticed over on Cruise Addicts that you were following "hct"s thread about a sailaway party. He is on a different sailing than ours. I think we will have a sail away get together but haven't got it set up yet. Keep watching our roll call...I'll try to get something set up this week-end.

Thanks for your replies. After I posted this I found a thread farther down that had some information on Halifax also. Some areas around the wharf.

I'm sorry I'm not sure what "hct" is. I was thinking someone on Roll Call CC had already suggested a place to meet after the safety drill. Maybe I am confused. I put this trip together so fast.

Linda...."hct" is a poster over on Cruise addicts. I just noticed on the "New England/Canada" port of call board on Cruise addicts that he was telling you about meeting for a sailaway party; but he is on a different cruise from you. I didn't want yopu to show up looking for a group that may not be there.

Thanks I'll keep checking Roll Call here for information about getting together. Do I understand correctly that the Celebrity Connections party information will be given to us when we get on board? Are you Seabee on CA board? Or, am I the only one that uses the same name both places? Can't believe it's already the 3rd of Sept. This month is going to go fast but hopefully things will slow down a little when we get on board.

I'm Seabee here and on Cruisemates...something else on CA...that name was already gone. I don't post much on CA...seems like a "closed" group to me. I'm sure they are a great group of folks and probably are many of the same ones here...still I like Cruise Critics better.

Lots of places near the waterfront in Halifax.. We didn't rent a car there or go to Peggy's Cove, found so much to do in Halifax... Murphys on the Water had great lobster roll and chowder with great harbor view on a lovely day..

There is a restaurant called the Five Fishermen up near the Citadel.

Excellent sea food with an all-you-can eat salad and mussel bar (marinara, garlic butteretc, your choice).

Walk up make a reservation, visit the Citadel, and return for a good scoff.

Cheers,

From another Midwesterner -- We rented a car from Hertz to drive ourselves out to Peggy's Cove. Along the way, we found a little restaurant called Shaw's Landing. Nothing fancy, but great fish-and-chips.

Approx' rental cost for a car was? How long a drive to Peggy's cove was it? easy drive? Where does one rent once they get off the ship?

Thanks

We had not booked ahead (against my advice). As we disembarked, we went through the Pier 21 bldg. Right inside the door were kiosks for Hertz & Enterprise, altho' Enterprise was closed for the Thanksgiving holiday. I had seen better rates online, but they quoted us $80 (CAN) for an all-inclusive rate -- rental, insurance, taxes, gas. With 4 people, it was still a lot cheaper than any tour.

They shuttled us to the Casino Nova Scotia hotel to pick the car up. Once we got our car, the drive was easy. A few turns to get on a main road (one-way streets around the Casino) and we were on our way. We returned from Peggy's Cove the same way we went, but found out later we could have come back a different way and seen more of the area. We should have looked at a map.

After returning the car, we planned to do some shopping in the Historic Properties area across from the hotel, then get shuttled back. But most of the shops were closed, so we just went back to the ship. There is also a museum at the Pier about Canadian immigration. Pier 21 is the door to Canada like Ellis Island is to the US.

Given that there were 2 cruise ships in Halifax that day, I was surprised how much was closed for the holiday. However, since the hurricane had just gone through and there was still a lot of debris around, I wonder if that was a factor.

This is an excellent restraunt; however, they are only open for dinner according to their web site. If you are on a cruise that leaves at 6:00 PM they don't open until 5:00 PM so wouldn't be worth seeing the ship sail away. The mussle bar is wonderful. I have eaten there for dinner on business trips in the past.
