wmbjr Posted October 31, 2007 #2 Share Posted October 31, 2007 Lots of posts about car rentals. Many people use Thirfty car rental and use a site called http://www.discounthawaiicarrental.com (I am pretty sure that is it). We used Thrifty at every stop and it worked out great! Just be sure to book in advance! You do not want to risk waiting until you get there to try and find a company with a car available.
Bucky3 Posted October 31, 2007 #3 Share Posted October 31, 2007 We used Enterprise in Kahului on Maui. Their office is a little closer to the pier than airport locations, and their shuttles were not as crowded as those for Thrifty. Service was great and we were in the car and on our way in very little time. Also used Enterprise in Lahaina where their office is in the Kaanapali Sheraton Hotel with shuttle to/from the ship. Everywhere else we used Thrifty.
beachchick Posted November 1, 2007 #4 Share Posted November 1, 2007 Aloha. Normally, I wouldn't mention spelling at all, but in the case of Hawaii locations, you must spell them correctly in order to make car rental reservations (and in case you're doing a search on this forum for the specific places): Kahului, Maui Nawiliwili, Kauai wmbjr is correct that there are tons of car rental threads here, many of them current and active. If you scroll back through a few pages, you should be able to find lots of info on the various places and various ways people rent cars for Hawaii. A few words: Rent in advance; sometimes the locations sell out entirely. In most cases, the closest (and only) rental locations are at the airports; don't go looking for companies that have locations right at the piers. The only exception is the King Kamehameha hotel (Dollar and Thrifty) across the street from the Kona tender pier. The airport designators are Honolulu = HNL; Kahului, Maui (for ships docked at Kahului ONLY, not for those at Lahaina) = OGG; Lihue (Nawiliwili), Kauai = LIH; Hilo, BI = ITO; Lahaina, Maui (west side airport) for Lahaina ships ONLY = JHM. There are many detailed discussions with information, rates, locations, personal experiences, etc. You might want to do an advanced search going back only 1 month to start for "car rent" or similar. beachchick
