Ecstasy Review 10/20/07

This was my 3rd cruise with the first two being in 1994 and 1995. It was my husband's first. He was not that excited when I had brought up going on a cruise, but he went along with it and ended up having a great time.

We arrived at Galveston a day earlier and had reservations at The Harbor House Hotel. We booked early through galveston.com and got a rate of $135 with free cruise parking. We had to pay $10.00 to park the night we stayed at the hotel. It was nice and we were able to walk with all of our luggage to the cruise terminal. They did try to over-charge me twice. First on the room rate, they tried to charge me $195. Then, also on the parking, they tried to charge me $20.00. So, if you do book there, be sure to take your confirmation paperwork with you.

We arrived at the terminal about 10:45 AM on Saturday. We had VIP check in and were the first ones to board after the wedding parties. We were eating lunch by 12:00. Our room was ready around 12:30 even though they told us that it would be 1:30. We booked the catagory 12 suite and it was well worth it for us. One note about the jacuzi tub, it is pretty small and you have to step up pretty high to get in it, not a problem for us but it would be a problem for people with mobility issues.

We ordered room service for breakfast every morning and it was very good. We ate lunch all but one day on the lido deck. The food there was OK, but not great. The one day we ate in the dining room for lunch, it was very good. We ate every night in the dining room and it was fabulous. We requested a table for two shortly after boarding and recieved it.

We tried out the casino the first day and had no luck at all. We spent most of our evenings at the Starlight Lounge for Karaoke with Sam. She was a lot of fun and can sing better than the production singers! We did attend a few of the shows and they were entertainig, but not that memorable. The one that I liked best was Jesse Lopaz. He was good.

We did not sign up for tours and that is the one thing I regret. There is not that much other than shopping within walking distance at either port.

We were supposed to leave Progresso at 5PM but did not leave until 11AM the next day due to high winds. Therefore we were very late getting back into Galveston on Thurday. The staff did a great job and activities continued throughout the day on Thursday. The dining rooms were open as well. We arrived in Galveston around 7:15 and we were on the road by about 8:30. We were facing a 4 hour drive so we were really tired when we got home.

Overall, we had a great time and I will cruise with carnival again. I would love to go again and take my boys 6 and 9. The kids on board looked like they were having a great time.
