LTC Posted November 17, 2007 #1 Share Posted November 17, 2007 Hi, My family and I are on the NCL Jade in August. We will be in Rome on a Sunday and were planning to take the Vatican and Sistine Chapel excursion. I've read that these are closed Sundays in August, but NCL doesn't mention this on their shore excursion website. Does anyone know if these will be opened or closed. Thanks
X-ring Posted November 18, 2007 #2 Share Posted November 18, 2007 the Vatican and Sistine Chapel excursion. I've read that these are closed Sundays in August,... Does anyone know if these will be opened or closed. The Vatican is a city-state - similar to Washington D.C., it is always 'open' so you can walk around St. Peter's Square etc. St. Peter's Basilica is a church - there is a Mass (i.e. Catholic religious service) every day, including Sundays. The Vatican Museum (in which the Sistine Chapel is located) is normally closed on Sundays, except for the last Sunday of each month when it is open (and free, and crowded). Hope this helps.
