stanandsue Posted December 3, 2007 #3 Share Posted December 3, 2007 Assuming that you will be flying from Pudong Airport (most international flights depart from there), it is approx 30 minutes from Shanghai city center. I am not sure how close to the center that the cruise ships dock.
Philip217 Posted December 4, 2007 #4 Share Posted December 4, 2007 The reason why there are so few answers here is: There are 2 airports and 2 cruise terminals. One airport is quite a distance Northwest of Shanghai (New Pudong airport); the other is closer to town to the Northeast of Shanghai (old international airport). Both airports service international flights - but the new airport in Pudong takes more of them. One cruise terminal is right downtown, at the foot of the Bund. It takes mostly smaller ships. The other cruise terminal is several kilometers downstream, at the container facility. Most of the larger ships call there. If you can be more specific about which terminal and airport you are using, I can give you a better answer.

We shall be on the Seabourn Spirit so presumably we shall be docking at the terminal that caters for smaller ships. We fly out on BA from PuDong airport. Philip217 Posted December 6, 2007 #6 Share Posted December 6, 2007 seapenarth, Seabourn normally docks at the old cruise terminal at the foot of the Bund. A great location for you to see the city. The building righ tnext to your ship was formerly the Japanese Embassy (before WWII), and is now a Chinese Navy Office. The Russian consulate (formerly Embassy) is just down the street. It has the distinction of being the only piece of property in all of China that does not belong to the Chinese Government. The New Pudong Airport is 30 to 40 minutes away. CruiserMom Posted January 27, 2008 #11 Share Posted January 27, 2008 Do a search on Beijing. We stayed 1 night last year at a hotel across from the train station, CROWNE PLAZA BEIJING 48 WANGFUJING AVE., DONGCHENG DIST. BEIJING, CHINA 100006 86-10-5911 9999 Someone from these boards recommended it. It was large & modern with a nice restaurant, where we had dinner & breakfast (in the hotel) because DH was afraid to eat out on our own. We were overnighting on a HAL cruise & on a private tour.
