Does anyone have experience with car rentals?

I reserved a van a few years ago from a rental agency only to learn on arrival that they had no van available (this happened in Cayman once too). SInce I was with a group of 8, they gave a two vehicles for the price of the van, but that was less convenient. I can't say that this sort of thing is endemic - but it can happen...

The roads are not well marked in Barbados (although the government is investing a lot in increased signage). Nearly all roads run either N-S or E-W with the coast road encircling the island. It is easy to get lost and waste time in the interior. One can avoid this easily if you have a compass. If you know what direction N-S-E-W you're going you will save yourself a lot of aggravation because pretty much all roads lead to the coastal road.
