Did everyone carry cash to pay for the tours? That seems like a lot of money to carry on you for the day??Are there any other options??

We carried the cash with us and were fine. I also do not keep the cash in the obvious places (pockets, outer pockets on backpacks, etc). Charlie and his team are very eager to make sure you have a wonderful experience in Costa Rica and on their tour - so they "protect" their clientele. We also never felt unsafe.

On our tour in early October, Charlie's son accepted traveller's cheques, so we didn't have to carry any wads of cash.

We carried cash with no problem. We left most of our belongings in the bus while we were doing the zipline and learned that we should have kept a little bit of $$ with us to tip the staff and to buy t-shirts. Luckily, others in our party came to our rescue and we paid them back when we rejoined the bus.
