cruisin'sz Posted December 17, 2007 #1 Share Posted December 17, 2007 Looking to go to Waimea Canyon in the very early afternoon (12-ish) - is that too late - are we risking clouds at that time or do they usually appear later in the afternoon? beachchick Posted December 18, 2007 #2 Share Posted December 18, 2007 Yes, you are risking clouds by going later in the day. The thing is that there is no real "set" time when you can expect clouds to come in. I remember one time when the canyon was socked in in the morning and cleared for the afternoon. That's not the normal pattern, but it does happen. We've been at the canyon around noon and somewhat later and had the summit totally clouded (with no visibility down to the Na Pali coast; bummer), but the rest of the canyon nice and clear with only a few clouds for "contrast" in the background. Go and enjoy. It's a beautiful place. (Even though it's the sight of my infamous "broken ankle while on a cruise and we had to go home" incident. Word to the wise: Watch your footing on the very fine red dirt, even if you're wearing good shoes/sandals. Mine injury was a fluke, but it sure ruined that trip. Thank goodness for travel insurance.) beachchick
