'The Bear' Posted December 18, 2007 #1 Share Posted December 18, 2007 Kal -- Could you please tell me where to purchase some 'Ma-Do-Do'? (sp??) &, if possible, could you give me directions and approximate costs. I've been to St. Maartens 4 times, and love this island! :) Most of our sightseeing has been on the French Side, but, while in Phillipsburgh, we haven't strayed too far from Front St. :o
kal Posted December 18, 2007 #2 Share Posted December 18, 2007 You can get Ma Doudou at a number of liquor stores and jewelry shops on Front Street. It's available at Caribbean Paradise and RAM's (both liquor stores), also Ray's Jewelers which is across the street from Caribbean Paradise. Prices run from about $9 to $13 depending on flavor. 'The Bear' Posted December 19, 2007 Author #3 Share Posted December 19, 2007 Thanks a lot for your quick response, Kal ---- we sail on Jan.5; and I want to try that liquere, this time, instead of 'guavaberry'! The novelty has worn off that stuff! Are there any other unique liqueres from SXM other than the above mentioned? If so, it would be nice to try those, too! ;)
kal Posted December 19, 2007 #4 Share Posted December 19, 2007 Ma DouDou comes in a number of different flavors, so try to sample a few to see which one you like. I believe RAMs has some open bottles for sampling. Spiced Ginger, Banana Vanilla, Chocolate, Coconut and MORE!

gtaylor Posted January 10, 2008 #7 Share Posted January 10, 2008 what is this stuuff? Is it a rum or Liquor? I've been to St. Maarten atlest 5 times and never heard of it. How could that be? How could that be? Frommer's Review Ma Doudou occupies a tiny shack virtually obscured by overgrown foliage in the town of Cul-de-Sac. Call ahead unless you're in the neighborhood, as it keeps irregular hours. Ma Doudou means "my darling" in Creole patois. Darling certainly describes the collectible hand-painted bottles garnished with madras clippings. The products -- rum-filled candies, spices, jams, and 20 flavored rums (including one starring an enormous embalmed centipede that reputedly possesses aphrodisiacal properties) -- practically overflow the shelves in the cramped space. The owners often throw in a free bottle with a minimum purchase. It's located near the Pinel Island ferry stop. (click) gary
