luv2vacationmom Posted January 1, 2008 #1 Share Posted January 1, 2008 We have the day in St. Thomas and want a great beach adventure (heard that St. John is the place to go)...two families with kids (Ages 10-16) and also grandparents. How do we get to St. John quickly from RCL ship on our own? How long do we need to get back? Also..is this even the best place to go while in St. Thomas? Want to avoid the super crowded beaches. THANKS!!!:D
The Islander Posted January 1, 2008 #2 Share Posted January 1, 2008 Beaches on St. Thomas that are popular with cruise passengers and tours are Magens, Coki and Sapphire. There are other beaches, so you can head to one of them. On St. Thomas you could head to the beach, try some watersports (kayaks, windsurfing, jet skis, diving, snuba, snorkeling, paddle boats...), historical homes/buildings, island tour... You can head to St. John, the VI National Park is there and included in it are many beautiful beaches, hiking trails and ruins. Cinnamon Bay is a nice choice for getting in a little of all as the beach is there and right across from the entrance is the Cinnamon Bay plantation ruins and a self guided hiking trail. Getting to St. John on your own requires taking a ferry, they depart from both Charlotte Amalie and from Red Hook. Schedule varies by location, so does price. Once in Cruz Bay St. John, where the ferry dock is located, there are taxis to take you where you want to go. Allow at least an hour to an hour and 15 minutes for the commute. On the return trip keep possiable traffic in mind so allow enough time for getting back and some for traffic. --Islander
