Kaboochi Posted January 2, 2008 #1 Share Posted January 2, 2008 We use our verizon cell phones to call home when away, however they seem to only work as far south as San Juan. What do you do to call home from the the islands south from there? Do you have a calling card or other means? Info please. Thanks, Laurie
ccletzgo Posted January 2, 2008 #2 Share Posted January 2, 2008 Your verizon phone will work with the ships cell service. You need to make sure you have international calling added before you leave home, and update your roaming. 2.48 a min. (I think) all the info is on verizons web site. Put cruise ship in the search. Amlee Posted January 2, 2008 #3 Share Posted January 2, 2008 If you have a verizon digital phone, your phone will work futher South than you think. Below is a link to verizon's international website. You will see a drop down box that starts with Mexico. Click on the little arrow and it will show you all the islands and the ship that the phone will work. As said above you will need to contact verizon via 611 to have I-dial added to your phone. http://mobileoptions.vzw.com/international/roaming/rates/Mexico.html
Marytutor Posted January 2, 2008 #4 Share Posted January 2, 2008 ATT is $2.50 a minute from the ship when you activiate it before you leave. We have used it twice on TAs and the reception was good. We used it on land in Europe and paid .99 cents a minute. It is also possible to text message from a lot less. Mary
travelteach326 Posted January 2, 2008 #5 Share Posted January 2, 2008 Call your provider. Att & Cingular has an international/carribbean plan. You can add the plan and then drop it the next month. The plann is $5.99 2 month and then charges vary depending on Island location.
