Firsttimescaredcruiser! Posted January 14, 2008 #1 Share Posted January 14, 2008 Has anyone visited Cayman Camera Ltd? How did the prices compare to the states?
drew sailbum Posted January 14, 2008 #2 Share Posted January 14, 2008 Prices compare favorably to retail shops in the States and often meet or beat internet prices on promotional items. Cameras and photographic equipment are imported duty free into the Cayman Islands. Cayman Camera is located on Goring Avenue, about a block from the waterfront. caymanjohn Posted January 14, 2008 #3 Share Posted January 14, 2008 I can't give you a direct comparison with the USA, but Cayman Camera prices on some Canon EF lenses can be as little as half the UK prices. You also get full US warranties on everything they sell. To give some idea of prices I just bought the Canon 17-85mm EF IS for US$519 and the Rebel XTi body I bought earlier in the year was US$700. In the UK the lens runs out around US$900 and the body is about the same. One warning, the Camera Store on the Waterfront tends to be a lot more expensive and, if my recent experience is typical, the staff have no idea what they are selling you. nolaAlive Posted January 15, 2008 #4 Share Posted January 15, 2008 Not sure if this is the same lens, but it is $478.25 on Amazon - could probably find it cheaper than that with a few Internet searches. http://www.amazon.com/Canon-17-85mm-4-5-6-Stabilized-Digital/dp/B0002Y5WXO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1200376109&sr=8-
