depends on how I'm feeling (and my DH is feeling) after dinner. If I don't feel like wearing heels and my fancy duds anymore, back in the closet they go. When I am dressed up, I don't really care if others are around me. Be concerned about yourself and how YOU feel, and don't worry about others. Remember it's their vacation too :)

I've read enough on these threads that say MOST people enjoy dressing up. But then why do they call it "formal NIGHT" why not just formal "HOUR?" And since it is formal NIGHT, if you hate it so much, why take a cruise? Or why not just eat elsewhere that night? If there was something I hated or felt forced to do, I wouldn't do it! (Unless it was mandatory like a job duty). If I hated so badly putting on formal clothes for 1-2 nights (Oh the HORROR!) I just wouldn't cruise because I know that's part of a cruise!

 

Why cruise? Because we enjoyed our first and want to take a second. Is that ok with you ro do I need permission?

 

Why do I dress up? FOR THE FREAKING FOOD! I hate buffets so I dress up as requested to eat.

 

Again, why does it bother you so? Mind your own business and enjoy yourself without worrying about others.

 

I cruise cuz I want to (gee I sound redundant now). If I have to dress for food I will. There is no rule by Carnival that says you must stay formal all night long. If they did, I would but they don't so I don't.

 

If they offered the same food in another casual dining room I would do that instead.

To me its so funny all the things people have to say or think or feel about what others do on their cruise. And I know absolutely no harm was meant by this or any other comment that can be said time to time., but what do you think that little boy or girl on the island that sees those big ships coming and going with all the people spending all that money would think if they saw that it still wasn't enough..... just to be lucky enough to get to go on these cruises. That the people on them can still be miserable because their dinner time was wrong. or thier hallway was loud one night, or not everyone had a tux all night long. I thinks its so funny how there is allways something to say! If it really bothers you spend a little more and go on a regents or nicer cruiseline.... Celebrity can be just as nice and formal at a fraction of a luxury line. Just enjoy your cruise for what you put in ... and what the cruisline gave to you.... hopefully a great time that others would kill to have!!!

We both dress for the formal nights and neither love it or loathe it. We don't mind much although it can be a hassle if you have early dinner and have just returned from shore minutes before dinner! In those cases, we just do the buffet.

 

We don't necessarily run back to the room and change after dinner either. Generally, we seek out a lounge after dinner for a drink or two before deciding on what we are doing the rest of the evening. Some nights, once the formal attire is removed, no other attire is required for the rest of the night............................;)

 

Isn't that supposed to be part of the cruise experience, too???:D

At home, I'm usually in my PJs by dinner time. Now this is unacceptable for a cruise formal night, but I'm willing to go along with dressing for dinner. If I am not tired and feel fine, I may not change after dinner. Then again, I might just put on my PJs, sit on my balcony and read. I think we're doing good to get so many people willing to dress up for dinner, don't worry about after. I won't give a second thought to you in your formal gown if you won't give a second thought to my casual dress in the later hours!

Why, after so many people say they LOVE dressing up for formal nights, does everyone change back into their regular clothes as SOON as they are done with dinner, like it's a race or something? I personally like to enjoy the rest of my evening in my pretty clothes, and I don't feel like changing that many times a day. Hubby thinks otherwise, but I force him. Needless to say, I feel out of place because everyone else is so casual and we're walking around formal. Would it really kill you to wear a dress or suit for a few more hours? Modern society is just not classy anymore like it was back in the day!! Carnival has formal dinners, many other cruise lines have formal evenings. On those lines you are specifically asked to be formal for the entire evening.

If it seems to bother you so much why don't you cruise with a line that cares as much as you? Most people go with the flow - personally I enjoy the dressing up and I also really like changing back into something more comfortable - I couldn't care less what others are doing. I'm sure there's a snobby line out there somewhere who mandates dress around the ship before during and after dinner................

I care about looking beautiful and following the guidelines at dinner, but afterwards I want to enjoy myself. If that means changing into something more comfortable, I am going to do that.

I usually change after formal night, but then again, I usually do change after dinner regardless of the day. I wear scrubs or jeans with the same warm sweatshirt every day, so on my cruises, I can change many times and finally get a chance to look cute and wear cute clothes. Very rarely do I change into jeans after dinner though, usually a skirt and a cute top, or nice pants with a cute top, I'm constantly changing on cruises just because I can. Looking at my pictures, I can never tell what was taken when because my clothes are different in every one.

 

So for me, changing is more because it's more of a chance to wear cute clothes and look nice in something else besides staying in the same old thing every day. Yea, I carry a lot of extra clothes when I cruise.

People are well within the bounds of propriety if they stay in their formal wear or if they change after dinner. Carnival does not put forth an expectation either way. Therefore, I don't care what people choose to do. That is very different from when people don't dress according to the code in the dining room. In that case, I care strongly what people choose to do. Two totally different scenarios...

We normally dress up to take the family photo. We always do late seating so we take our time and have our pictures done before dinner, then eat.

After dinner back to the room, change, and hit the casino.

Not sure why this would crack you up or even seem odd:confused: .......but hey whatever floats your boat:D

The last time I wore a tux was at a jaycee convention. After dinner we were all standing on our chairs chanting and yelling. Our district won the spirit award so we all got to take the obligatory victory lap around the dining room with our newly acquired flag. There is alot you can do in a tux besides just eat and get pictures taken.

I'll admit I'm one who comes home from work and immediately gets into lounge clothes. I'm not one for dressing up. I'll play by Carnival's rules for dinner, since I rarely dress up that much, but I don't stay in my dress, I just don't feel comfortable. If I had to stay in my dress Carnival would lose my business.

 

That being said, I'll happily stay in my dress if you mind seeing my jeans and t-shirt underneath it! ;):p

It depends on what we plan on doing after dinner. If we're going to the show then I'll stay in my suit. If, on the other hand, we're off to the dance club then I'll change into more appropriate clothes for the venue.

I think we, as a society, have just decided to forgo most of the pomp and circumstance that was so valued by our forefathers. It's mostly just a matter of comfort. Most folks are just not willing to sacrifice their comfort so that others are impressed with their clothing.

 

A hundred years ago it would have been unthinkable to have a wedding in shorts and flip flops, or go to a social dinner in jeans and a t-shirt. Now, we do those things and never think twice about it. I don't know that this is a bad thing, just different times. Many years from now, folks may just walk around nude and say that we were the fancy ones!

I will wear either to dinner and to the evening show. After that I switch into something more comfortable to the casino or disco.

 

Heck I have been known to do costume changes 4 times a day while on vacation.

I change for 2 reasons 1 it is uncomfy trying to gamble in a formal dress and 2 I am an F cup which means for my strapless dresses I must wear a heavy duty underwire strapless bra, You better believe as soon as I can take hat puppy off and change into a normal bra asap
