MidtheNight Posted April 1, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 1, 2004 Arriving one day early for the Wind sailing on 5/29 and need some advice on a decent hotel that's not super big in $$ just for that first night....probably won't be arriving until 9pm so we just need a place to crash basically. We're already booked into the Hilton Hawaiian for 2 nights after the cruise and splurged on an upgraded room for then as we'll actually be spending a little more time in the room those couple of days. Any advice would be greatly, and I really do mean greatly, appreciated....Thanks! Sailin' on the Wind 5/29/

SweetEmi Posted April 1, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 1, 2004 We stayed at the Continental Surf, but that may be a bit tooooooo low key for you. The room was clean, had a little fridge and microwave, and was about 2 blocks from the waterfront area. It was in a pretty good location. The Entertainment Book got us a really good deal at the last minute. Parking there is like $7 a day and once we couldn't find a parking spot - left for awhile and when we came back there was one for us. Emi NCL Star-08/31/03 in Hawaii! NCL Star-11/13/04 to Mexico! MidtheNight Posted April 1, 2004 Author #4 Share Posted April 1, 2004 SweetEmi- What "tooooooo low key"? If it's clean and decently priced, it's for me! Hubby's the one that stayed at HHV when he was about 10 and is the one insisting on staying there this time around too....personally I could care less as long as it's clean and bug free (living in FLA you see the biggest bugs ever all over)! I'll check out your recommendation! Thanks!!!! Sailin' on the Wind 5/29/

MidtheNight Posted April 2, 2004 Author #7 Share Posted April 2, 2004 Spleen93.... Would love to keep it somewhere about $100 (or less??) for that one night. I have a feeling we're going to be way to tired that first night to even care if the hotel has 6 restaurants, 3 bars, nightly watershow/fireworks, etc....whoops, hey that's Disney! Seriously though if you can think of one or two places that might fit the bill I'd appreciate the advice. Going to try to book something within the next couple of days....Going to check out the Continental Surf today that SweetEmi recommended. BTW....Thanks for all your help folks. Trying to make this a memorable trip this year (20 year wedding anniversary, son's graduating from high school, daughter's turning into 13(family lucky number)...big things happening and really want to everything to go smooth (or at least not a total disaster). spleen93 Posted April 3, 2004 #8 Share Posted April 3, 2004 Under $100 does make it somewhat harder. I think Emi's suggestion isn't bad from that standpoint. Or have you looked into Priceline? Some excellent deals can be found for cheap through Priceline for Hawaii. The Ohana and the Aston hotel chains in Hawaii are budget hotel chains that are relatively decent. Comfortable and clean for the most part. Spleen until RSSC Navigator - Canada - 6/04 Carnival Conquest - W. MidtheNight Posted April 3, 2004 Author #9 Share Posted April 3, 2004 Thanks for the input Spleen93 and SweetEmi. Gonna book me a room somewhere this afternoon after I do a little research. One more thing to mark off my "to do" list for our trip. Have a great day!! Sailin' on the Wind 5/29/
Michele Noel Posted April 3, 2004 #10 Share Posted April 3, 2004 Why don't you use Priceline? I just booked a hotel, 3 star in Honolulu for $53. Very nice hotel because I have stayed there before. Go to bidding for travel.com first and read about what people have been bidding and winning for your city and then use that info to bid on Priceline. Have fun in Hawaii. TexasAlexus Posted April 3, 2004 #11 Share Posted April 3, 2004 MidtheNight,we are sailing on the Wind on the next sailing after yours (June 10th). I am currently bidding on Priceline for our pre-cruise stay. I have used PL in the past for pre-cruise stays in Florida and have been very happy with the hotels we have gotten. You should be able to get a 3-star hotel in Honolulu for around $52.00 to$55.00. MICHELENOEL-what hotel did you get on Priceline? I'd love to know because you said that you have stayed there before and liked it. ALSO, I'd like to hear from anyone who can tell me of a hotel is either close to the cruise port or close to the airport. We plan on getting a room just for the day to store our luggage in when we return from our cruise. We have a 12 hour wait for our departing flight and we do not want to waste the day in Hawaii sitting at the airport. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help. 6/9/04 Norwegian Wind to Hawaii 1/17/03 Celebration
sdcruisers Posted April 3, 2004 #12 Share Posted April 3, 2004 on priceline you can get waikiki (north-section) #4 rated hotel prince (with 2 towers of ocean view rooms) fo $95/night...just bid it yesterday... R & M
spleen93 Posted April 4, 2004 #13 Share Posted April 4, 2004 The Hawaii Prince hotel is a very nice hotel. No beach, unfortunately, but it's easy walking distance to Ala Moana Beach Park and essentially kitty-corner to the Ala Moana Shopping Center. Good place, if you can get it for under $100. MidtheNight Posted April 4, 2004 Author #14 Share Posted April 4, 2004 Beach access is not important to me, especially on that first night before the cruise...have lived in FLA for 17 years now and have been to the beach less than 10 times (all in the first 3 years we've lived here)...Skin cancer runs too strong in hubby's family....and besides that who wants to look like an overripe prune when they're 60 (see way too many of those here in Florida...we're only 42 and I definately don't want the type of skin damage we see on so many elder people down here). Only time we seriously venture out into the sun now is to snorkel which I understand is absolutely fantastic in Hawaii and plan to do that in several different spots along the cruise and in the couple of days after when we are in Waikiki. Thanks for all of the suggestions folks!! Think I'm going to be a little less picky and try priceline for the hotel too! spleen93 Posted April 5, 2004 #15 Share Posted April 5, 2004 Just make sure that you read BiddingforTravel.com and follow their advice on how to bid for the Prince. Treven Posted April 9, 2004 #18 Share Posted April 9, 2004 I'll kick in my 2 cents worth. I stayed at the Alana DoubleTree Waikiki last month. I had a room with a king-sized bed, entertainment center, balcony, wet bar with small fridge, working table/chair, and large bath for $109/nite - and that included taxes. MidtheNight Posted April 9, 2004 Author #20 Share Posted April 9, 2004 Have been having many "discussions" with hubby regarding the hotel. He doesn't want to have to deal with Priceline and the two person/one bed deal (since we're traveling with our 18 year old son and 12 year old daughter). So to end the "discussions" will be booking something direct. One good thing though....just rechecked on airline tickets and got a great deal! Continental is running a deal (15% off - only really found those prices on their website though) so I'm saving about $800 on what had been the going rate up until now. Yipppppeeee! So instead of $2900 to fly the four us out there from Florida it's only $2100. Didn't even bother with priceline for that price! Laura4cruise Posted April 10, 2004 #21 Share Posted April 10, 2004 We stayed at the Pacific Marina Inn for one night (landed in Honolulu too late to hop on our flight to Maui). Very basic, but nice, clean and comfortable. Free shuttle from the airport, has a restaurant where you can eat breakfast (nothing special). No views, not near the beach. I think it's mostly a place for travelers to crash on their way to somewhere else. But that sounds like what you need. I don't know what room layouts they have; our room had just the one bed. They have an internet booking special for $65/night during the time you'll be there. The highest rate is $87 for a quad, which might be the room you'd need. http://www.castleresorts.com/PMI/ [This message was edited by Laura4cruise on 04-10-04 at 09:14 AM.]
Ron & Kristy Posted April 14, 2004 #22 Share Posted April 14, 2004 Ok, I have to jump into this conversation and ask if anyone knows anything about the Waikiki Resort Hotel? If it is a total dive I need to know now so that I can get it changed. Our TA booked us in there for two nights after we get off the ship. So if anyone has any info please share! Thanks. cruisecrasy Posted May 1, 2004 #23 Share Posted May 1, 2004 Hope this isn't too late but I am booked into and have knowledge of the 'Aqua Bamboo' - lovely refurbishing done on this small hotel a few blocks from the beach..and priced under $100 per nite for 2 (about $106 in Feb-March) and overlooking the pool too. Continental breakfast included! Hope this helps... & happy cruisin' !

Ron & Kristy Posted May 23, 2004 #25 Share Posted May 23, 2004 Hi all. Just back from our May 8th sailing on the Wind to Hawaii. The trip was fantastic. We stayed two nights in Honolulu at the Waikiki Resort Hotel. It was $65 per night and well worth it. It is well situated and a clean, attractive, budget hotel. We were no more than a block from the beach and probably a short block at that. If you are looking for budget accomodations I definitely recommend it.
