beach410 Posted January 17, 2008 #1 Share Posted January 17, 2008 I know there is a seperate section for port questions, however, they are not read as frequently and I have not gotten any feedback on several of my questions. I am hoping someone here can answer some questions about Freeport. 1) Have you been to the Sheraton on Our Lucaya and if so, did you use their facilites, what were the charges and was it nice? What does it cost for a taxi there? 2) Any other recommendations for Freeport would be great. Thanks!

cruisinjerseygirl Posted January 17, 2008 #4 Share Posted January 17, 2008 I know I agree for some reason there is tons of info on Nassau but not much to read up on about Freeport. From what I read it seems like Our Lucaya is the best choice by everyone and it seems like it will be nice so I think that is what we will be doing because I haven't found much else on anything in Freeport. jimbug Posted January 17, 2008 #6 Share Posted January 17, 2008 I was in Freeport in 2006. We took a taxi from the ship to the Lucaya area, and it was really nice. The taxis there are vans, and the price depends upon how many people you cram in a van. We had a full van, so the price was $4/pp each way. Before other people showed up, the driver had quoted us around $20-$25 each way (just for 2 of us). So, moral of this story is, get in a van, give yourself plenty of time to wait, and others will show up, drastically reducing your price. It's only about a 10-15 minute drive to Lucaya from the port. Once you get there, it is quite nice. The Sheraton and Westin, and the Isle of Capri Casino are all on the "beach side" of the road, and there is a large shopping area with upscale stores (Nautica, Hilfiger, etc.) and also a flea market on the other side of the street. We didn't have to pay anything, but all we did was go to the beach in front of the Westin and plop down on our towels. Shortly after we arrived, some girls told us they were leaving and we could have their beach chairs if we wanted. So we took them--I'm not sure what the going rate is otherwise. We did venture up to one of the restaurant/bars there and found the prices to be pretty high, so we ended up going to the Subway in the shopping center across the street. poodlemom396 Posted January 17, 2008 #7 Share Posted January 17, 2008 Do not go to Port Lucaya. I have been there 2 times and was disapointed both times. This last time was this past Christmas time and we were asked to leave the Sheraton Pool area because we did not have wristbands. They are not friendly unless you pay. The area is very open to the tourist beach so you think they would welcome you. We had just paid $100.00 US for lunch at their cafe. We had to split two hamburgers between 4 people because a hamburger was about $15.00. They still kicked us out. Shopping is also horrible and overpriced. I will not go back. And I am a very "easygoing" traveler. Find another exursion.

Can't remember taxi rates but the above rates sound about right. We used there beach and got 2 chairs even though we had 4 people, (let the youngins plop on the beach;) Gave the guy a tip for setting up the chairs and carrying them to wherever we wanted them set up. After we tipped him he gave us another chair for free. Beach was very nice and the water nice and warm. We did go in June though. Bill
beach410 Posted January 17, 2008 Author #10 Share Posted January 17, 2008 I read about Ocean Motion, they have a couple of stands, one at Westin and one at the Sheraton, they have all sorts of water sports, but I have never read any reviews about anyone using them. The beaches are public, you should be able to use them without the hotel bothering you. I wonder if there is a day pass that Sheraton or Westin sells so you can use their chairs and pools.
