Help..transfers...ft lauderdale?

we arrive in ft lauderdale at 9:00 AM on the day of our cruise and have already scheduled a transfer. Now we have learned that the transfer service doesn't start until 11:00. What are our other options? Could we get a cab to pier...check in just bags...and then venture off to the beach? Any other ideas?

Thanks!!

Transfers are the last thing you'd ever need to get from FLL to Port Everglades. You can see the cruiseships from the airport, it's only 2 miles from the airport, typically a ten minute cab ride to the terminals for under $15. Ditch the transfers, waste of time and money.

There's no reason why you couldn't drop your bags off with the porters at the cruise terminal and then continue on to explore the town. The only downside is you'd be arriving when everyone else is departing, you'd be in the peak of congestion.
