Miami - What to do/see for a day?

I originally posted in the Florida ports of call forum, but had little success there.

After our cruise, we've given ourselves an extra day to explore Miami before heading back to the cold and wet North we call home.

Anyway, any suggestions would be great. We will be renting a car so we can explore at our leisure. Only thing for sure is we want to check out an air boat tour on the everglades and hit South Beach.

Any airboat tours in particular that are better than others? Is South Beach the best place to go to check out the beach scene? We've never been to miami, or east coast US for that matter.

We're also looking for a cheap hotel as well if you have any recommendations.

Thanks,

JK

A couple of good places to visit: Miami Beach anywhere between 3rd st and 15th Street and Ocean Drive. This is the road that runs along the beach and there are lots of shops, cafes, and restaurants as well as nightlife and the Art Deco Architecture. Lincon Road Mall is another lively area with much of the same.

Coconut Grove: Cocowalk is another outdoor area for shops, cafes and rstaurants.

Bayside: you can take a cruise around the Bay to visit the celebrity homes.

Coral Gables: Miracle Mile/Venetian Pool

Really Miami is a city of beach, shopping and eating......Not much else...However if you do make it out to the airboat rides...whcih is fun....you should try to visit an indian reservations and take a tour in the Everglades....maybe you'll see a gator in the road :)
