thecleave Posted April 13, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 13, 2004 The Hale Koa hotel is supposed to be great, and it's only for people with military connections. The price isn't too bad either. Here's a link to some reviews from Trip Advisor: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g60982-d120709-Reviews-Hale_Koa_Hotel-Honolulu_Oahu_Hawaii.html Here's a link to the hotel itself: http://www.halekoa.com/ Hope this helps! spleen93 Posted April 14, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 14, 2004 Unfortunately, it doesn't improve any by moving out of Waikiki - Waikiki will still give you the cheapest option from sheer volume. Aston or Ohana hotel chains will generally be good options. If you can go Priceline, the Hawaii Prince hotel and the Sheraton Waikiki hotel are both available for around $100/night. Another Hawaii board visitor, Treven, has mentioned that the Alana Doubletree Hotel in Waikiki is usually available for around $100/night (check Expedia.com) and it's a very nice comfortable hotel. And the aforementioned Hale Koa would also be a great option if you have military connections (which I assume you have since your daughter works at Tripler) Spleen <a href="http://www.escati.com/counter98/free_time_codes.htm"> </a> until RSSC Navigator - Canada - 6/04 Carnival Conquest - W. Suebee Posted April 14, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 14, 2004 MWR can help with discounts too. http://www.hickamservices.com/ is for Hickam AFB but other bases have them too. I am going to the Hale Koa Luau in a couple of months and can tell you about it. The restaurants are terrific there. We had a dinner for 4 (Mahi Mahi and Steak dinners) with alcoholic drinks for $60 just about a month ago. Hale Koa also has a tickets office and can help with arrangements there too. Use all of the services you can while there. I belive Dollar rent a car has an office there too. NCL Star 1/04 What's Next? Alaska 2005 - Ask me about an official CC group! EDANA Posted April 15, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 15, 2004 We just returned from the Star 4/4 and the Hale Koa which was our pre and post cruise hotel. We love it there and get to stay at least 3 times a year at the hotel. I notice that their excursion desk prices are cheaper then others. If you plan on attending the Luau which is only on Monday and Thursday then you should call the activities desk and get your name on the list early, the tables are assigned 1 month prior when the tickets come in, so first names on the lists gets best seating, also know that Thanksgiving and Christmas is a very busy time at the Hale Koa. You will really enjoy the hotel.
