Messina to Etna

Nine of us are on Carnival Freedom in July and want to just go to Etna what is the best way - taxi? And how long is the journey?

in 2006, carnival liberty offered an excursion called mt etna at 2900 meters. it was fantastic. you get to go almost to the summit. it was pricey at $150 pp. with 9 of you, i would look for a private guide and van.

We've been to Messina twice and used Sicily Life tours both times. I can't speak highly enough of them. They were very reasonable. We had 8 people and I believe it was 450 euro. Our guide both times was Antonio and he was great. Our first trip was to Etna and then Taormina. If I recall correctly it took a 1 1/2 - 2 hours to get to Etna.
