What options for dining on Spirit?

Recommended Posts

you can let the boys go to the blue lagoon, it's the 24 hr diner...

hamburgers, fries, wings, potato skins, etc. plus a breakfast menu.

it's great for when you want "comfort" food.

we, only, did the main dining rooms in december. next cruise, DH is saying he wants to do Teppanyaki. we are so active and busy, we don't have time for the reservations at the surcharges...we lived in the buffet area and a couple of trips to the main dining rooms.

cagney's steakhouse starts at $20, for the steakhouse specials is $30...that's total, you don't combine the 2 prices. the asian dining was popular, there are 3 areas...the sushi, tepanyaki and shogun.

we did do the italian, no surcharge..but you do need reservations.

We were on the Spirit Nov 07. We ate at several of the speciality restaurants. The italian restaurant was ok, they basically took half of the buffet restaurant and turned into a restaurant. Was free, needed reservations and was average. We had been to Le Bistro on the Majesty and had loved it but were disappointed with the LeBistro on the Spirit. We went to the Asian restaurant which was good, the duck dish was awesome, however if you wanted sushi which was behind my husband's chair you had to pay a 2nd surcharge which we felt wasn't fair.

However, Teppaniyaki, was fantastic. We ate there twice and hope to enjoy it several time on our upcoming Dawn cruise in November.

Haven't seen a surcharge listed for Teppaniyaki on these boards...could you tell us what it is...I don't think that it is the same as the Asian Restaurant. Thanks!

Teppanyaki is a $20 service charge per person.

We've done it twice (first on the Spirit then on the Pride of Hawaii), hoping the 2nd time would be a better experience, and came away with the same feeling as the first time (although the 2nd time, on the Pride of Hawaii, the chef was able to make a volcano out of an onion which was cool).

Personally, I don't think it's worth it, but it's a subjective thing. Many people rave about it. How good the "show" is really depends on the talent of your chef. The first time we went there (on the Spirit in 2006) we found ourselves watching the chef at the other table, so that tells you what we felt about ours LOL. Our chef was more talented the 2nd time around (in 2007 on the pride of Hawaii), but we still came away feeling it wasn't really worth the price.

The food itself all pretty much tastes the same, fried rice, heavy with garlic, and either chicken, steak, or shrimp, all prepared the same with garlic and butter.

Thanks so much "Preds" for the quick reply. We did the Teppanyaki option on the Norwegian Dawn in 2004 & 2005 and thoroughly enjoyed it. I do agree, it all depends on the talent of your chef!

Does anyone remember if there is a 1/2 price time for Teppanyaki on the Spirit? We're on a budget as far as the Specialty Restaurants go and would like to enjoy at least two of them on this trip...but unless we can find a half-price night, we'll have to settle for just one special evening dinner.

Thanks everyone for all your help!
