How much cash is necessary?

Recommended Posts

We're first-time Aussie cruisers booked on the Independence from Southampton in July. We're spending a week in London post-cruise and will obviously require pounds (and euros for ports) but I've heard the ship only takes USD. How much actual cash will we need on the ship? We will probably pay our account with a credit card. Since the ship returns to the UK would it be acceptable to give any 'extra' tips (for exceptional service) in pounds? Or even euros for use in port?

You should need very little cash on board. You can use your credit card to take care of your sea pass account, and you can even put tips on your credit card. (All purchases on board are done using the sea pass card.)If you do tips via credit card you will get little slips to give your servers so they know you have tipped them.

No cash is needed on board, and you can even get up to $2000.00 a day for gambling in the Casino each day, if your credit card allows it. If you need additional money just go to the Casino and get money. You don't have to gamble it, just walk out with the money and use as you want. Sure beats getting travelers checks and carrying lots of money on you when you are getting to the ship.
