Dolphin hotel in Southampton

The hotel is at the end of the high street, ( dock end ) lots of bar and resturants nearby.

Dont know what the rooms are like as not stayed there ( live in Southampton ) but if its only for 1 night before cruise does it matter.

Have had drinks there and from the decor its seems ok.

Other hotels close by are Holiday inn, Ibis, novatel and 5* grand harbour, all are right by docks and popular over night stops.

hope this helps:)

Thank you for your comments on the Dolphin Hotel in Southampton. Hubby had found a rate of 50 pounds and was considering booking it. After reading a few critical reviews he was hesitant. We are looking for an economical place to stay for one night. Want to save some money to use for excess baggage fees.

Re Hotels Southampton - tried Holiday Inn Express last year, very good value and very clean - on the way into Soton.

Also have stayed at Travel Inn - now Premier Inn at Eastleigh- absolutely awful - woke up in the night as very hot( about 30 degress c in the room) and looked out of the 2 inch crack in the window ( no doubt to stop me jumping out or nicking the TV) and saw 2 big rats having a party around the base of the picnic tables!!!

Complained to reception who were not interested, so reported to EHO on return from holiday who went to site and said there was no problem as they had lots of bait down!!!!! ( I bet the rats aren't interested in rubbish old bait when they can have a feast of bits of chips and burgers dropped on the ground by young children eating outside!)

I think Novotel is ok and very handy location but you may struggle to get a good price - try laterooms.com

De Vere very good but a bit pricey

For Holiday Inn and Express you need to use their site as they don't do deals with 3rd party agents.

ETAP hotels from £32 per night per room (for 3)

Re the Dolphin' date=' its an old coaching inn & one of the more historic hotels in the area, another being the Star in the same steet, but don't know what it is like to stay in.

Rooms on the high street[b'] might[/b] suffer from noise from people visiting the pubs in the area.

Thank you! We have booked a room here for the night before the cruise. Since it is new, we are going to give it a try. We will be flying in that day and should be very tired.

Think we will have a drink or two at the Dolphin, just to see it.

Thanks again. Getting very excited about our cruise.
