Tampa marriot

As first time cruisers we are excited about having an enjoyable and top notch cruise/vacation. We are going to Florida early (in May) and will stay the night before in Tampa. Is the Marriot Waterside worth the extra money for room. Would it be the case of a hotel charging more than what it provides or a case of a great place being expensive but giving the guest their money's worth ? I know it is near the port and can we walk to the pier or would it be wise to take a cab? Any opinion or info would be greatly appreciated.

We just moved from Tampa in August after 4 years.:( The Marriott Waterside is a beautiful hotel in the heart of the Channelside District. It is quite a few blocks from the pier, so I would suggest taking a cab for convenience sake. Especially if you pack a million bags like I do! Since I have never stayed therepersonally, I am not sure regarding the case of being more expensive and providing your moneys worth. There are fun bars and restaurants to go to in that area and if you have kids going with you the Florida Aquarium is right next to the pier. Although they will be out of season, the Tampa Bay Lightening play virtually next door at the St. Pete Times Forum. Check out the Forum's event calendar closer in a few weeks to see what events might be happening at the Forum for your enjoyment. http://www.sptimesforum.com/.

Hope this information helps. Tampa is a wonderful city and the Port is a great one to go out of (we did two Miracle cruises out of their in 2005 & 2006). Enjoy the city, we miss it so!
