cblcop Posted February 13, 2008 #1 Share Posted February 13, 2008 This will be my 10th official cruise and have been told I will receive Platnium Status Priveledges. Where can I find the perks that I will be getting. If I get early embark and debark Priveledges and my wife and 3 year old child aren't Platnium Status. odviously I wouldn't leave them but would they be able to embark and debark with me as a Platnium Cruiser. I do realize they are not Platnium status and I will not use this portion of the status if given. So everyone can go easy on me on this question. As everyone is wanting to get on the ship as fast as possible. It's just the 3 of us in one cabin and would hope that we could all use this. If not I will be in the long line of anxious cruisers waiting to get on and off the ship. Thank you in advance for all reply's

Rare Captain Funtime Posted February 13, 2008 #3 Share Posted February 13, 2008 You will be Platinum and as your wife and child are in your cabin...the perks extend to them. Best perk in my opinion.....free wash and fold laundry. Priority embarkation didn't work for me. The VIP lane at the Purser's desk is a joke. barbevrn Posted February 13, 2008 #7 Share Posted February 13, 2008 I just took my 10th. Platinum was worth it for embarkation and debarkation if for nothing else. The ship was delayed due to fog and we did not even start boarding until time to sail away. The parking lots did not even let us park until 4pm. Walking around the corner and seeing those long lines after a long day was quite depressing. I showed them where it said to report to VIP for check in and got right into the VIP area. After a short wait I was checked in and on the ship in 10 minutes. I did feel bad for the folks that were still boarding 2 and 3 hours later. I did not use the laundry service, but may take advantage in the future and not pack as much. The petit fours and canapes were not my favorite, but are a nice touch. I got a free coffee thermos with a carrying case. I have not used it but I am sure I will. I got one evelope and 2-3 sheets of stationary. LOL. I guess that is fine since I rarely use snail mail. I used my free entry into the slot turnament and was in the final 10 but did not win. Oh well, it was fun trying! I stood in line once at the pursers desk to ask a question but there were about 10 folks in line. I decided my question was not that important to get in front of those folks no matter my VIP status. I am sure there are some issues that I might not mind using my VIP status to get ahead, but did not feel the need. I did enjoy the raised eyebrows and acnowledgement when the platinum card was whipped out.
LHP Posted February 13, 2008 #8 Share Posted February 13, 2008 Yes, all folks listed under your documents (staying in your cabin) will have their cards pulled (along with yours) and placed together in the VIP lounge. We have always gotten excellent service at the various ports at the VIP lounge. As you can tell from our list, we have used their services several times a year. Carnival handles the embarkation well for all their guests and the VIP helps the most when you arrive behind 4 transfer buses from the airport or in situations where the ship is delayed and everyone is trying to get on at once (as was the case on the Holiday in December). When you get your documents, if you don't see those magic words, have your TA or PVP contact the ship to make sure you are on their Platinum list and take a copy of your cruise history with you. We love the free slots entry....especially since we FINALLY WON last month!!!! ($500.00...yea!!) We sent over 30 pieces to the free wash and fold and they came back perfect. Although I would not send delicate items. We send the usual undies, socks, shorts, jeans and tshirts. Have a great cruise!!!
barbevrn Posted February 13, 2008 #9 Share Posted February 13, 2008 Oh, forgot to add............we took our debarkation tags with the # 9 on them and had them exchanged for the #1..........With self debarkation we were among the first 10 or 20 off the ship and on the road at 8:30am

You really should not generalize about how Priority Embarkation "did not work" when you have only used it ONE time at ONE port, since they started the Platinum program. Hardly a proper representation of what Carnival offers. Perhaps they were having an off day. We have used VIP check in at Long Beach, Tampa, New Orleans (several times), New York, Mobile and Miami since they started the Platinum program and have an excellent experience at them all. (some better than others, but all were great)
PA Dutchman Posted February 13, 2008 #11 Share Posted February 13, 2008 Never had a problem at the VIP Purser's desk. Handled us right away. Now the other line, don't know why so many people in that line, glad I'm not a Purser, I'm sure ther are some wild problems or people think so. Only had to go there 2 times over the last 4 cruises, that was to ask to have our balc door opened to my sisters. Didn't have any problems. ;) We like the perks, used them all on the last 2 cruises. Rare Captain Funtime Posted February 19, 2008 #16 Share Posted February 19, 2008 Sheri... ALL YOU WANT ! I used it almost every day. Good perk ! Rare Captain Funtime Posted February 19, 2008 #17 Share Posted February 19, 2008 LHP....let me explain further.... As you can see from my cruise history... I have avoided Carnival for a period of time. Cruised on a couple of other lines (although Princess is under the Carnival Corp. umbrella). When I entered the "VIP" lounge there were a few people in the lounge but none standing at the desk attended by ONE representative. I approached the desk to be admonished by that person that she was serving other pax. That is fine with me but why the attitude ? I didn't go postal... I simply left the room and went to the steerage area and was served by not only the rep. in my "line" but the available rep. the the adjacent line. They were wonderful. Like I said LHP... it didn't work for me.

We used it 3 times on our 8 day Miracle cruise and I was amazed at how neatly everything was folded. Even items I normally would have to iron were "wash & wear"....had to love that perk since we'd also done the 4 days on the Fascination before the Miracle cruise. It helped me pack somewhat lighter :D
popsec Posted March 3, 2008 #21 Share Posted March 3, 2008 We were on the Fascination last week and whenever I went anywhere near the purser's desk they'd wave me up to the "concierge" spot. They really know how to treat platinum guests on that ship! On the last morning we had priority debarkation and my mother and sister needed wheelchairs, which hadn't arrived. I battled the throngs to ask at the pursers desk about the chairs. There was a huge line waiting but I went right up to the concierge person. Some woman grabbed my arm and said, "there IS a line". I just held out my platinum card and said, "and there IS platinum"....there was alot of loud grumbling in the line behind me :( . Usually, if there are just a few people at the purser's desk I'll just wait in a regualr line.

Your ONE use of the system does not make you an expert on the subject. Your "know it all" attitude is all that got you in trouble. All I did was point out that that :know it all: was representative of ONE TIME. Every time the subject of Platinum comes up on the various threads...you have a negative comment about it. I don't believe you can give a fair "representation" after only using it ONE TIME.

I also try to never use the Platinum line unless there are several Purser's working...unless it is something really important. And yes, you always get a "comment or two"...but I have never had someone physically grab me. I think I would have had to tell that woman that until she learns to read the word PLATINUM...she needs to keep her mouth shut and her hands to herself.
