Blue Lagoon Dolphin Encounter...

My five year old and myself did this last week. We had a great time and thought it was well worth the $$. I booked it myself through Dolphin Encounters rather than through the ship and had no problems (it was $85 per person) We took a cab to the ferry terminal, checked in and then took the Dolphin Encounters ferry to the island. Nice boat ride and the island was very pretty. After the encounter you can wander around - not a lot to do but there is a gift shop, a small lunch counter with snacks, hotdogs, etc. and picnic tables. You can also walk out to see sea lions. By the time we had the encounter, changed back into our clothes, saw the sea lions and had a small lunch the boat was there for us to go back. Perfect amount of time - not too rushed - would do it again for sure. :)

we are also looking to do the dolphin encounter in Nassua. can you tell me what was included in your tour? did you get to "ride" the dolphins? How much time did you spend directly with the dolphins. My 11 year old would love this.

thanks for the info.

Hi again,

Cab fare was $4 per person. We took the water taxi/ferry back to the ship on the way back and it was $3 per person.

We didn't do the swim, we did the encounter. There was a group of about 6 of us. They did a short information session first, then the group of 6 all got into the water and stood on a platform - the water was waist deep. We each had a turn to pet the dolphin, kiss the dolphin, dance with the dolphin, feed the dolphin, the whole thing (in the water with the dolphin) lasted about 15-20 minutes. It was $85 each. There was also a photographer taking pictures and videoing it - she got some great shots.

We did the swim and it was one of the most awesome days we have ever had. It was pricey, but we would spend it again in a heartbeat.

We met a woman while there who said she had done about 6 different dolphin swims at other locations, and this was the best she had encountered. Turns out she is a captain who does manatee swim tours a few hours from where we live, and we booked a trip with her last year, it was awesome.

I would recommend the dolphin swim to anyone without reservation. The "encounter" didn't look nearly as good. Oh, we didn't "ride" the dolphins, but they did "push" us. Again, it was a joyful experience.:D
