sqm Posted February 14, 2008 #1 Share Posted February 14, 2008 This was our first time to Jamaica and first time booking a private tour. We read all the reviews on different tours and looked at prices and decided that Marva Shaw's Dunns River and Mahogany Beach Tour was what we wanted to do. Marva has gotten so many good reviews so we decided to try it out, and we were not dissapointed. We met Marva's son Jay at the Pier and he took us to Dunn's River which is about a 5 min drive from the pier. He told us he would meet us back at the van in about an hour and a half. We met with another tour guide who was to take us up the falls. If you have a camera, the tour guide takes it with him and takes pictures of you climbing the falls as there are 2 or 3 good photo spots they stop at for you. If you have a waterproof case for your camera, then you can carry it to take additional pictures as well. Each group also has a guy that video tapes your group climbing the falls and you can buy the DVD for $40. There was even an employee there from the cruise line (CCL) to take pictures that we could buy back on the ship. After that, Jay took us to a little shopping mall for about 30 mins. We bought a few souveniers from here, however found out later that we could get cheaper ones at the Taj Mahal shopping center (oh well). He then took us to Mahogany Beach (about 10 min drive) and asked how long we would like to stay. We chose to stay for an hour and a half since we wanted to do more shopping after. The beach was cute but pretty small and rather crouded. A lady asked if we wanted a chair for $4 each, we told her we were with Marva Shaw and she got a us a table and chairs for free (Marva gets a lot of respect from the Jamaican people). There were several activites to do at the beach such as water skiing, snorkeling, and jet ski to name a few. Jay picked us up right on time and brought us to the Taj Mahal shopping center which was a few blocks away from our ship. We ran into him again at a souvenier shop and he helped us pick out souveniers. He was a very nice guy and was extremely helpful and really respectful. I would definatly book through Marva Shaw again and would encourage others to do as well.
