earltonharley Posted March 4, 2008 #1 Share Posted March 4, 2008 We are cruising on the Explorer April 11. This time down to the port we are traveling with two other couples, so there is the need to take my crew cab pick-up. All the e-directions (map quest, etc.) have me traveling on the Garden State Parkway. My truck has commercial plates and is over eight feet high with the Lear cap. I am traveling down the New York State Thru-way south from Catskill (exit 21 Route 87 South). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
lclocke718 Posted March 4, 2008 #2 Share Posted March 4, 2008 the directions on cruiseliberty.com, have you getting off the NJ Turnpike @14A....there are directions there for several modes of transportation and beginning points, ie, So Jersey, PA, etc.
melsdt Posted March 4, 2008 #3 Share Posted March 4, 2008 Instead of taking the Garden State Parkway, you can take the Thruway South to Route 17 South (right after you enter into NJ, exit 15 I believe). You will stay on Route 17 for at least 15 miles, and the Turnpike South (It says Route 3 east as well) will be on your left. A few miles earlier you will see signs for 80/Turnpike but ignore them, and stay on 17, as I indicated above. Once on the turnpike, you will get off at Exit 14A Bayonne, and go onto 440, and that is basically it. Let me know if that works for you, or if any part wasn't clear. Have fun! earltonharley Posted March 5, 2008 Author #4 Share Posted March 5, 2008 Thank you. So 17 will run along side the parkway? I will go that route. Thanks again.
dahammer Posted March 6, 2008 #5 Share Posted March 6, 2008 try this google maps link: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=14560048782747672611,41.172303,-74.186499%3B14364954621925285798,40.670700,-74.107150&saddr=I-87+S%2FNew+York+State+Thruway+S+%4041.172303,+-74.186499&daddr=41.048288,-74.122009+to:RT-440+%4040.670700,+-74.107150&mra=dpe&mrcr=0&mrsp=1&sz=11&via=1&sll=41.042592,-73.927689&sspn=0.384269,0.63858&ie=UTF8&ll=40.837191,-73.898849&spn=0.385466,0.63858&z=
melsdt Posted March 6, 2008 #6 Share Posted March 6, 2008 Thank you. So 17 will run along side the parkway? I will go that route. Thanks again. Not really along side, but it will work for your purposes. It is actually shorter I think than taking the parkway. The link that Dahammer posted is similar to the directions I gave but has you get off and get on 80, etc. I wouldn't follow that as it isn't as direct. I have gone that way, and the last time I sat in 2 hours of traffice (very congested over there with Lincoln tunnel, and GW bridge). here it is on google maps: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=14560048782747672611,41.172303,-74.186499%3B14364954621925285798,40.670700,-74.107150&saddr=I-87+S%2FNew+York+State+Thruway+S+%4041.172303,+-74.186499&daddr=41.048288,-74.122009+to:RT-440+%4040.670700,+-74.107150&mra=dpe&mrcr=0&mrsp=1&sz=11&via=1&sll=41.042592,-73.927689&sspn=0.384269,0.63858&ie=UTF8&ll=40.837191,-73.898849&spn=0.385466,0.63858&z=
