Recommended Snorkeling Spots?

My BF and I are not wanting to book through the cruiseline, however we do want to check out the island on our own. We were thinking of renting a Jeep and driving up to Rum Point, then renting some snorkeling gear and maybe snorkeling there. Has anyone snorkeled at Rum Point? How is it?

 

What other places, within driving distance of the cruise pier, would have good snorkeling? And preferrably, we'd like to rent gear nearby!

 

Also, we are sailing RCCL; can we rent gear from the ship?
