Cruisin'BusyBee Posted April 11, 2008 #1 Share Posted April 11, 2008 Hi to all - this is such a helpful site! Could anyone "enlighten" me as to any good hotels in New Orleans. Thinking of doing another NCL cruise for next yr. but with all the stuff going on w/airlines; we worry about actually getting to ship on time. Thus, we want to do one or two days pre-night. Thanks so much for anyone who could help me out here! C/BB
nlt46 Posted April 11, 2008 #2 Share Posted April 11, 2008 We did Embassy Suites. It had a free happy hour and free breakfast included with the price of the room. It was within walking distance of the port. It was a distance from the NO action, but it surely worked for me and my family. Nancy

flashdog_1 Posted April 11, 2008 #5 Share Posted April 11, 2008 Yes, Quarter House at 129 Chartres is wonderful (http://www.quarterhouse.com). We've stayed there 4 times for a week at a stretch (you cannot ever finish "doing" New Orleans). Since that is a timeshare, it reminded me that there is a "points" time share near the pier. I don't know if they'd let you leave your car there additional days, but you could ask.Garage across the street is self park and it is really tight. There IS a fee for parking but it is pretty cheap in comparison to what the garages in N.O. want. It is called Plaza Suite Hotel Resort (http://www.plazaresort.com & plaza-suites.com) at 620 S Peters, about 1 1/2 short blocks from Harrah's. They may rent, as well. The rooms are anywhere from studio to 1 bdrm sleeps six, some all on one floor, some like a condo with loft. There was a large number of foreign guests who spoke not one word of English, so I am thinking that N.O. was only a part of their "visit America" trip and therefore a single night stay might be possible (or as many nights as you wanted). Additionally, I saw people checking in and out all week, so it is popular. The other close to the pier time share in N.O. is on Decatur near Canal. It is Club La Pension. I don't think they are points, though. I promise I'm not selling timeshares! I just mention this because you get an apartment w/full kitchen & appliances, not a hotel room, a courtyard, security etc. yet you'll have a concierge desk, usually some form of food given some mornings, a hot tub, self serve laundry on site (I haven't found one in N.O. that charges you except Quarter House). I've only mentioned the 3 above because they are near the port. But there are others that are not near the port that offer the same type facilities. We had very cheap self parking at Jean Lafitte House 613 Esplanade (jeanlafittehouse.com). Sorry, despite my yearly travel to N.O. I have not stayed in all of them, but hope to! There is one closer to the streetcar at 405 Esplanade called Hotel de la Monnale which looks nice. I do not see a web address for it but their phone is 504/947-0009.These two are at the other end of the Quarter from Canal, so it's very peaceful there, more residential, near the French Market. Some are quite small and hard to get into on an exchange, but if you are or are not a member of RCI you might call any of them to see if they rent by the night, or the week for that matter if you wanted to make your vacation a two weeker, one on land. one on sea. Phone #s will be on their websites. If you have any questions that are not answered on the individual resort website, you may email me at p gauker at bell south dot net. Put in subject line Cruise Critic so I won't delete.
CRUZIN TOM Posted April 11, 2008 #6 Share Posted April 11, 2008 We stayed at the St. Christopher hotel. It is a best western. We booked on line and duing the week it was 89.00 per night. It has a self serve breakfast bar. It is only 3 blocks from Burbon street one direction and the same for the casino, if interested. We had a really nice stay there. It is at 114 Magazine street. If you are going to be there a couple of days , be sure and get a bus pass. It is only $5.00 for the day. You can use it on the local trolleys, to go to the cemetaries, the waterfront and the garden district. Be sure and ask at your hotel where to buy the pass.:)
Babesia Posted April 13, 2008 #7 Share Posted April 13, 2008 We stayed at Le Richelieu in the French Quarter in February. Beautiful hotel, very helpful staff (they even sell the day bus pass directly!), quiet area, yet not too far from everything. And priced reasonably too! Enjoy your stay in NOLA, she's a beauty! Wormy53 Posted April 13, 2008 #8 Share Posted April 13, 2008 We love the Monteleone. Right in the FQ on Royal Street. Also right across the street from Mr. B's - best bbq shrimp!! Everything is very handy there. NO is easy to get around from that area.
