Sign & Sail for kids?

We are sailing in January with our two DS's, 10 & 12. Is there any way that we can set a limit that they could charge each day? I don't really think they need the ability to charge, but my DH thought if we could give them a limit - $20/day or whatever - that would be easier. Any thoughts?

 

Also, do the video games take your S&S Card? On our RC trip I was thinking they did, but our boys were not with us so I'm not sure . . .

Yes you can limit them per day.

 

We give our kids a limit so they can use it in the video game room. We purchase

Soda cards for them so they have Sodas taken care off.

So you can get sail and sign cards for your kids? Do you have to go to the desk each day to add another $20 or do you tell them at the beginning of the cruise? Can you just at the beginning of the cruise get them a S&S card with $100 limit and when it's gone, that's it? My kids will be old enough this time to let them have their own. Also, are soda cards worth the price?

We have allways just told the kids how much they could spend in a week and they have been fine with it. I think the kids always thought that it was an actual limit because one time either on the ship or at Disney my daughter was not going to buy a shirt the last day because it would have put her $1 over the limit and she thought the card would be rejected. At that point I told her she was fine and the charge would go through but I was happy that she watched what she spent.

So we would just add our children to our S&S account so they each will have a card and just tell them that they have a limit and then hope they don't lose the card or over spend HA!. I just don't want them to lose it then someone else is using the card....EEKS!

I am taking my kids on their first cruise and I am actually tossing around in my mind the same question. Should I put money on their cards or keep money on my card and if they needed something I could get it for them. We have a separate budget for the video games and I am going to get them soda cards. But I thought that if they had money on their cards, it may be fun for them. Like them having their own credit cards or something.

Every passenger musgt have a card. It is your ID for boarding, etc. You do not have to authorize charges on the kids' cards. We didn't for ours (7 and 10 yo) and they never really needed to buy anything, especially when we're not around. We did not use soda cards, and the kids really didn't complain. We brought a small amount of canned soda on board, and I think my daughter drank 1 can of root beer the entire cruise. Mostly they scarfed the lemonade, hot chocolate, and drank lots of water.

It does help. I forgot that the S&S was the ID. So can we just put a certain amount on their cards (say $100 each) instead of them being on my account?

I have to defer to gazingm42, so apparently you can. I agree it would be fun, we just didn't have the need. Ours brought a small amount of cash they had saved to purchase souveniers in the ports.

We asked the same thing a few years ago and were told that we couldn't put a limit, but we could check the balance every day in our cabin and then stop charging priviledges for the kids once the limit was met. I've never tried putting cash on the kids account and using a charge card for ours. If that's possible it sounds like a good idea.

Why not just secure their cards with cash deposit, either the whole amount for the week and they get to budget or recharge their card on a daily basis (though I wouldn't want to watch that close.)

I'm not sure if the arcade takes S&S cards, it seems like I had to use cash or buy tokens from the machine.

Great opportunity to teach some money management lessons.

We go to the casino and get free lanyards for S+S cards. They punch a hole in the card and it works great. We get them for the whole family. This way the kids can wear them around their necks. Less chance of losing the cards. :rolleyes: As for the money - I would check in the arcade - we used cash in the casino - the video machines (poker and slots) took coins - you may use coins or tokens instead of the S+S card.

Every PAX gets a sign & sail card regardless of the age. Every PAX uses it

to get on and off the ship.

 

Once we get on the ship, we go to the purser desk and put the limits on there.

It only takes you a few minutes.

The arcade will take S&S cards. You must enter your birthdate in the change

machine to get the change from the card.

Thanks for the information. So from what I am reading, I can go to the purser desk once we get on board and put a cash deposit on my childrens S&S cards? That sounds great and easy. That way, they are using my credit and they can money manage on how they want to spend their money.

they started with a $100 OBC for their cabin -- then we put $50 cash more for the week. We went to the pursers desk, linked our family together, and limited the boys to the $100 each for the week. We were able to keep track of all spending from our own TV -- and it worked out great -- they actually both had a little left at the end of the cruise !
