Let me tell you about some of the people I met on the Gem 4/12-4/19 (LONG)

Is it just co-incidence that Goldryder and myself are British and won't allow these people to have their own way?

We both live in the North of England, where we will not tolerate bad behaviour, no matter how much money people have!

I suggest that a stiffening of the backbone would not go amiss.

ps. Goldryder, we are from Darlington and have travelled on three NCL cruises including the transatlantic in December last year on the Gem.

I am originally from the south of England but even when I lived down there I never tolerated bull elephants on cruises....and anywhere else for that matter. Darlington isn't too far from me :)

Another trick of mine on a cruise is when its formal night and the couple behind are desperate to get their photo taken with the captain and they start pushing me....I have found that a 4" stilletto heel in the toes of the male partner behind me sorts that mularky out right away ;)

Allow me to put a different spin on the line jumping during debarking (and I hope it is a very rare happening).

My first cruise, we're in NOLA, hanging around waiting to get off. We're laid back people, driving so no flight worries, and we have all day. Just a five hour drive home. I get paged by the pursers desk, kidding with my friends that they must have found the drugs.

Answered the page and was told my mother was trying to reach me. Knew then that this was very, very bad news. Knew in my gut it was my father. He'd not been well for quite some time.

They were very kind, took me into the back room where I could call privately. Things were bad, he was in a coma (and never did recover). We were the first off when it opened up. Woe be anyone who got in my way at that point, it would not have been a scene, just a quietly muttered *very bad words here*. I'm not usually a 'me, me, me' person, but at that time IT WAS ABOUT ME.

I try to keep this in mind when I see this myself. Are these people really that rude (most who do this are), or are they having their own personal crisis, that I am not aware of nor is it any of my business.

OP, was there anything good about your cruise?

Your name calling wasn't very nice. You don't know why people are the way the are and calling them names is quite insensitive. And whether the large woman had a russian accent or not is really not the point, except to say that maybe the way she behaved was normal in her lifestyle. I'm not saying I condone it or not, but the bottom line is that there are chair hogs and line jumpers everywhere.

So, that being said, tell us about the excursions and the places you saw and the fun you had.

Give the OP a break. It's obvious he was talking about people we see all of the time on a cruise and the humor used made it worth reading.....

Sail away day at the grill one of the kitchen captains was urging people to just take what they want, "Please no lines". But we as humans naturally stand in line. If only out of politeness or for order, we stand in line.

So after five minutes of standing in line, the woman behind me declares "I DON'T KNOW WHY WE'RE STANDING IN LINE ANYWAY" then she proceeds to cut in front of me, my wife, and my daughter

I hate a line cutter as much as anyone but I don't understand how this was line cutting.

I agree that over the side of the ship isn't such a good idea, and is probably illegal. However, I sure wouldn't have a problem with taking the items to the "lost and found" and stating that someone had left their items behind at the pool deck.

I think that women was on the Voyager two years ago! A block of 8 loungechairs had been empty for at least an hour with just towels and I was been perched on the end of DH's during that time. I decided they were abandoned, moved a towel, and a woman came charging over from the pool deck screaming that I wasn't to touch her personal belongings. She had left a knapsack under the lounger and I didn't see it until I moved the towel. She was actually making noises like she was going to call Security over. She said her kids were in the pool and she and her sisters needed the loungers for when they got out.

A very proper older couple had been about to sit down at the same time and the gentleman turned to the chair hog woman and said, "Surely your very active children wouldn't mind if my wife had a chance to sit down for a bit." The woman opened her mouth and closed it a few times and grudgingly moved her stuff but made a point of telling me that they couldn't give one to me.

we were on the gem 4/12/08 - 4/19/08 and in regards to your statement

on lounge hog...you need to spend less time judging what other people do and worry about yourself...we were with a party on this ship and had

some of our party in the shade as they cannot be in sun. and others in the sun...i hope your comments were not toward us...as you are so off base it is not even funny...we had a mom in our group that fits age range you mentioned and she was not hogging any chairs and her son was a baby and her daughter was a toddler and in the pool for the whole morning til about noon time....just had to say this as your comments could have been aimed toward us and you are so wrong in your statment.

I can understand that...but I would imagine if there were an emergency, an NCL or cruiselink employee would be providing an escort past the queue.

I hate a line cutter as much as anyone but I don't understand how this was line cutting.

There was a line stretching from the 12th deck elevator to the dinner plate stack. The woman shouted in my ear "I don't know why we're standing in line anyway" then cut in front of me.

?" Okay, I'm ready to toss the wench, but DH smiles back at her and responds, " You really shouldn't be so critical of yourself, yes, you do have a large a** but I think two lounges will hold it just fine" and with that he plopped himself down on the lounge. It only took her a few minutes to decide it was best for her to relocate:D

OMG I'm supposed to be cleaning but had to do my daily CC reading first and this made me LOL. Thanks for getting my Sat. off to great start. If only I was such a quick wit! Love it! TOO Funny!

I would have told her to please go ahead and call security over! Then you could have pointed out that there were eight loungers being saved and that no one had used them for more than an hour. The stated rule is 30 minutes, so I would have politely asked the pool security staff to enforce the rules. Her kids certainly don't need lounges when they're in the pool for hours on end. And she had no right to tell anyone not to "give" you a lounge--She didn't own them! I just get so angry when I hear stories like this.

I'm sorry for your loss. My feeling is NCL should have escorted you off the ship. Cursing at other people at that time is still unacceptable.
