Tom Servo Posted April 24, 2008 #1 Share Posted April 24, 2008 Just a warning to those looking to rent a car through Avis at the dock in Aruba. We reserved through Avis' website to pick up a car at their pier location and showed up last week to find no Avis booth. After talking with a couple of security guards, they both told us that Avis did not pay their rent so they were kicked out. They told us that if we went to the security booth, we could call them and they'll come pick us up, but at that point, we thought we'd better stay away from Avis. We reluctantly ended up going with Top Drive, who matched Avis' price of $33 for a compact. I was a little nervous about going with Top Drive after reading a few bad reviews about their vehicles on cruisecritic, but asked to look at the car before agreeing, and it seemed fine. I just checked my cc balance and I was charged the correct price. Two years ago, Reynold's Car Rentals in St. Maartin double-charged me, so that added to my worries of going with a local company as well. So no problems this time with Top Drive. LDR Posted April 28, 2008 #2 Share Posted April 28, 2008 We had the same problem when we were there on 3/25. Nobody knew where Avis was, but fortunately, we were able to get a jeep through someone else.
