Shopping at pier?

Hello-
Can anyone tell me if there is any decent shopping at the pier or within walking distance? I will be with my baby and mother....and I heard that safety is an issue there. So...we don't want to wander off to far to shop.
Appreciate any suggestions or feedback.

There is a shopping area at the pier. There is also a handicraft center about 10 minutes walk from the pier. You can find directions to the center elsewhere on this board.

Yes, but be careful walking to the handicrafts center. I was with my husband, and we still got some "looks" once we ventured outside the gates of the pier area. The National Crafts Center has some nice stuff, but I wouldn't recommend going there alone. It is a very short walk from the pier area, but many people ck you out when you leave that area. In fact, our driver on our tour was a bit reluctant to tell us where it was and even offered to drive us. My hubby is 6'4", so I figure that is why no one chose to mess with us.
