Water Taxi's

We were in Roatan this year and got a taxi at the pier (Van - 7 people) and paid $20 each round trip to the beach and back. The driver dropped us off at the Myan Princess resort and came back and picked us at at our designated time. It was the most beautiful drive up in the island and back down to the other side where the beaches are. I keep hearing people talk about the "water taxi's" and was wondering if you can actually take these small boats at the pier and go by boat around the island to the beaches? If so, any idea what the cost is? Is this what people are talking about when they say "water taxi????"

I'm not aware of anyone running boats from the pier over to the West Bay Beach area (which is where MP is located). I've made the run on dive boats & it's a long run, sometimes very choppy on rough seas.

The "water taxis" you typically see mentioned here on the Roatan discussions are the little boats that run back & forth between the West Bay Beach area and the West End community (which is a few miles down the shore from where you were). You probably saw them when you were at the Mayan Princess - they are small skiff style boats that pull up to the various little piers along the beach. They just make the run back & forth between West Bay & West End. I don't know what they are charging nowadays - I'd guess maybe $2 or so per person.
