rosiebee Posted May 15, 2008 #1 Share Posted May 15, 2008 As part of our cruise on the Emerald, we will be stopping at Piraeus - for Athens. We don't want to do an organised trip to Athens as we have been there before. What's the best way to get to the city centre? Also any other tips for the Aegean cruise? kate52 Posted May 15, 2008 #2 Share Posted May 15, 2008 we went into Athens on the train last summer. There was a shuttle to the port entrance, and from there we walked, keeping the water to our left. It was a fairly straight walk, just one junction- you could see the overhead walkway on the road you needed. It took 25-30 mins. Lots walking that way. We got off at Monastakiri, walked off in the wrong direction! Retraced our steps and went to Syntagma, and Plaka. Train was very cheap, a couple of links may help http://www.europeportreviews.com/Athens3.htm http://www.chem.uoa.gr/Location/AthensMap/Athensmap.htm http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=434686 kate

rosiebee Posted May 16, 2008 Author #4 Share Posted May 16, 2008 Hi Taylaboo. We do the Adriatic part of the cruise starting Aug 1st and then the Pearls of the Agean on the 8th of August. Would really appreciate any tips on 'doing your own thing' after you've been on your trip in June. Have a great time. Rosiebee
