CruisingCatherine Posted May 15, 2008 #1 Share Posted May 15, 2008 I am doing a lot of reserach for our upcoming cruise to Freeport. This sounds like an exciting option. From what I have read there is beach areas, hotels with pools, shopping, dining, casino, ect... Anyone been there recently? How did you like it? Any chairs and umbrellas for rent at the beach? Any hotels offer passes to their pools? Thanks in advance!!!
Pancho878 Posted May 15, 2008 #2 Share Posted May 15, 2008 I was there last year on a cruise with Carnival and layed on the beach for a while, but honestly there is not much to do there other than that. Yes there are shops, hotels and casinos but I found that the shops we less than stellar and there was a casino on the boat so really no reason to go elsewhere for my gambling. Hope this helps! bobsfamily Posted May 16, 2008 #3 Share Posted May 16, 2008 Try this link: http://www.portlucayamarketplace.com/ It's just what a tourist would want to do for a few hours... not the best but you do have a beach/shops/food/drink and can also gamble with better odds than on the ship, plus it is open as the casino on the ship will not be until it leaves. jarjus Posted May 18, 2008 #4 Share Posted May 18, 2008 What are the names of the beaches close by the cruise ship when it docks in grand bahama island? Do you take a cab to them? And about how far of a cab ride to the beach? And is it just a beach or is there water activites on it? Do they have a place to buy tropical drinks?? Any info would be helpful. Thanks... We took a shared taxi ($5.00 per person) from the dock area. Its about 20 min ride to the shopping and Hotel area. We got out (right near the casino) walked to the beach. Swam for about an hour, changed and went across the street to the shopping area. Once we where done we went back to the same place the taxi dropped us and took one back to the ship. Had a great time. Island is different then in Nassau. Next trip we are going to do the Jeep excursion. I would love to see more of the Island. Now to your questions. We did see chairs (no umbrellas) right on the beach. Lots of hair braiding on the beach, vendors selling trinkets. We didn't try any of the hotels to see what they will rent for the day. Hope this helps and have a great trip. Happy Cruising
