Independent Booking in Alaska Excursions?

Has anyone had good luck booking shore excursions independently? Where? With who?

everyone talks about who they went with.

what type of excursion are you interested in...?

juneau, skagway and ketchikan has website, with local vendors listed.

chilkoot charters is well used in skagway...bus/train combo trips. renting a car (in skagway) is popluar with those that don't want to do a planned tour.

juneau, many whale watching vendors...we did orca enterprises. to just go to mendenhall glacier, take the shuttle..don't need a formal tour.

We did one excursion through NCL but the others were booked independently. The Alaska board has lots of info.
