Tour timing in Hilo

We are on the 7/26 POAm sailing. I made a reservation for a helicopter tour from the Hilo airport for that morning. We need to check in at 8:45am for a 9:30 flight time. Will there be enough time to get to the airport from the ship when it docks at 8 am?

 

Also, will we have enough time after the flight to do a full tour of VNP ? The ship leaves Hilo at 6pm. Thank you all!

You should have enough time to make the helicopter tour check in. Just make sure you are one of the first off the ship. The airport is only about 5 minutes from the ship....if even that. Are you going to jump into a taxi to get to the airport? Probably better than waiting for the car rental vans.

 

After the helicopter tour you will have plenty of time to head up toVNP. Again, I assume that you will be renting a car. You can do the Crater Rim Drive for sure...much of it is closed right now, but you can still do the museum, the steam vents, the Thurston Lava Tube, etc.

 

Don't know if you will have time to drive all of the way down Chain of Craters Road. But, there is a great lookout spot part of the way down the road. Have fun!!
